After 2 weeks of cefaliexin for infection post knee surgery, I suddenly - overnite was too sick to walk, eat or even hold down fluids. After 10 days of this illness saw PCP who figured it was a virus. But he tested for Lyme, because I had positive Elisa 2 yrs prior. Again positive Elisa. Never totally recovered from this so called "virus" and been treating for Lyme since then, so I often think that those two weeks of cefelexin triggered some dormant Lyme and co's. ?

It is in the same family as cephalosporins, I believe, which are similar to penicillin. One of it's common names is Keflex. Perhaps a search on the site will bring more threads up if the common name is used...........
Is she allergic to penicillin? Some, not all, who are allergic to penicillin might have an allergic reaction to cephalosporins.
I hope she feels better soon--HUGS!

I remember reading that cephalexin was ineffective on lyme. But it may be effective on co-infections. Or possibly the strep "woke up" the lyme.
Third generation cephalosporins work well in lyme. Omnicef is used often with children instead of doxy as a first line antibiotic for lyme.
I hope she's feeling better soon!

- You're right .. I was thinking "ceftin" or a derivative of it.
keflex is not used for lyme
