Help!!! My sister in law just called. They found a tick on my four year old niece. They saved it. She said it was partially embedded...we don't know how long it was on her for.
The pediatritian of course said to look out for a bulls eye, but that Lyme is rare in GA. ugh. What do we do with the tick? And should she go on doxy as a precautionary for a while??

I am no expert, but dont mess around and take any chances. Did you pull it out with tweezers by the head? Do you know how long it had been on?
Did you put alchol on the wound?

Thanks only........I just sent her the link, we're kinda freaking out because of my situation, plus she's very frail and get's sick alot.
I just looked up on Igenex for getting the tick tested..and the prices are wow! 65.00 per test.........for each co-infection and the lyme it would be $325. Not sure if they can afford that.

No doxy is not safe for pregnant women or children. I personally would wait for testing eithr.

She's calling the lyme doc tomorrow. Does anyone know if we should get the tick tested? and any other places than igenex that will test? They are too $$$$

Dont trust any lab but them, lyme testing is too inaccurate. Just search for elisa and you will see.

Yeah and also dont trust any doctor that doesnt specialize in lyme

I got a tick tested and it came back negative .. I got sick anyway.
Save the $$$ and treat the bite!

No reason to test the tick really. It is a waste of money. If she is not showing signs of illness in a few days there is probably nothing at all to worry about.
We here in the northeast are getting bitten all the time and the kids have a few at a time. You just cannot avoid it. We take the out after a daily tick check, clean the area and look for any signs of rash or other lyme symptoms.
It was most likely not there long enough to do any harm. Please dont panic. I know how hard it is when we have been so sick but kids are very resilient and I am sure her parents got it off quick

Then use amoxi. May have heard that that's better at killing Bb than doxy anyway, I think. Maybe there are other drugs too...
I'd want a macrolide as well in that position...don't know if cyst busters are safe in children? Mepron, Flagyl, Tini, Tigecycline, maaaaybe Rifampin bust cysts?

It doesnt matter how long its been on if its not removed properly, I have been hearing you can get it from saliva in ticks also. I keep asking everyon I talk to how to remove a Tic and not a single person has known the right way. How it was removed is a big factor.
