So i decided to keep a follow up appointment with my Gen prac and update him as to my diagnosis of lyme.
I handed him my Igenex results and for one he looked confused then proceeded to tell me that it seems this test is an extremely sensitive test and therefore should be dismissed.
He wants me to take a tier test and make a diagnosis based off the results of that.
When i discussed my increasingly worsening neuro symptoms he suggested i go back to the group of neurologist's i saw 6 months ago and open the book back up on a possible MS diagnosis.
Needless to say i was not thrilled by this idea so i voiced my discern.
He then accused me of "LOOKING" for a diagnosis.
I responded with " you would look for a diagnosis too if you were 25 and couldn't function normally seemingly overnight".
He responded with "there is no lyme disease in Illinois"
Unreal. The fact that he would dismiss a treatable illness in favor of a progressive incurable one.
He then prescribed me more Antivert for my constant dizziness and sent me on my way.

Sounds like HE is LOOKING for a diagnosis, not YOU!!
What the heck is a tier test?? Never heard of it.
Dump him and move on so you can get well!

This just improves that I can trust my own diagnosis even more. I hate ducks. I searched for over a month before i came up with llyme. My first results werent too good it said I was stung by a jellyfish while pregnant, I dismissed that one considering I am male and havent been to the ocean in years. I think the Tier test is the ELISA then if positive the WB to confirm the positive ELISA.

He means the standard 2-tier Lyme test: ELISA then Western Blot.
This is why we stick with LLMDs and don't bother with our GPs anymore.

It seems like standard Docs use a "teachers edition" approach to medicine and if the answers arnt in the back of the book they cant help you nor are they interested in the possibility of something out of the norm.
Then the comment of lyme not existing in Illinois just made my stomach turn.

Save your $, time, and sanity by skipping the GP. They have nothing to offer here. Even if they did 'believe' you, they have no clue how to treat, other than what their little handbook says. It's not worth the aggravation.

Make up and excuse and cancel the appointment...., look for an new Dr, then fire the Duck.
After I finally got to see an LLMD and got a positive Lyme diagnosis I spent a year trying to educate my Primary Care Physician and my Rhuematologist (sp?) by supplying literature (Dr B's Guideline, Articles by Dr D, and others).They never bought in to the Lyme diagnosis nor the treament protocols, and I doupt they ever read anything I gave them.
Get another GP as soon as you can, and if you are comfortable with the new Dr and he/she is lyme friendly, then get your records transfered. After the records are transfered, then send the old Dr. a short note saying why you left his practice. Don't burn the bridge until you have a replacement Dr.
