As most chlorella originates from Japan, many of us are concerned about consuming such products since the nuclear disasters that have occurred over there.
Some products say right on the label that they're from Japan.
I've called New Chapter, they said theirs comes from Japan, too.
I'm just wondering if anyone has already found a source somewhere other than Japan or China so I might save some time.

I've thougth about this question myself. I had a good supply before this disaster happened.

I think the Biopure chlorellas are grown in indoor tanks, but I haven't got time to check now: you'd need to research it.

I talked with several manufacturers yesterday. They all come from Japan or Taiwan.
In the case of Sun Chlorella, they told me that it's grown in sealed tanks in Taiwan and then PACKAGED in Japan.
When I expressed concern over this, they replied that packaging there does not cause it to pick up any radiation.
They went on to say that they test their product for safety, and that Customs also checks it for radiation and does not let it into the country if it's not safe.
Does this allay my concerns? NO.
Here's the thing: I called about 4 manufacturers. NONE of their representatives were caught off-guard by my question. They have obviously been scripted and coached to field this question and were well prepared for it. A couple of them started answering my question before I even asked it. All I said was I have a question about your Chlorella and they launched right into their scripts. They've proably been getting this question all day long for the past couple of months.
And having worked for a very large corporation, my faith and trust in a company's word is nil. Frankly, the way the world has become over the past 20 years, I don't trust anyone any more. Companies lie like there's no tomorrow.
I'm not a scientist and I don't know much about radiation absorbtion and transfer. I guess it's time to research that.
But it looks like all chlorella is either grown or packaged in Japan. I didn't find any exceptions.

BioPure says theirs is grown in Japan, but they currently have a 1-2 year supply from pre-disastor. When I asked them a month ago, they said they were in the midst of researching what to do longer-term. So, if you're willing to trust them, you might consider them a source for now.

Biopure.....
Too rich for my blood.
Overpriced supplement makers always claim that they're product is superior, made with higher manufacturing standards, more sophisticated processing, etc., hence the higher price.
9 times out of 10, the only difference is a clever marketing scheme that usually involves a big name endorser (like Klinghardt) and in many investigations it's been found that the cheaper products are better.
For instance, I recall a study comparing sunscreens that discovered that cheap, generic sunscreen from Walgreens was superior to 5 or 6 expensive name brands including Neutrogena which is 3 to 4 times the price.

I asked this same question here right after the disaster happened. I also checked with several companies (sounds like the same ones you checked) and I found the same thing.
I don't trust these companies either and thus haven't been taking any chlorella since I ran out of my pre-disaster bottle.
I really would like to be taking it but won't take one that may not be safe.
If anyone ever finds one that is not manufactured in that region definitely let me know.

I am interested in finding a new chlorella source as well. I stocked up right after the disaster, but even then i only had enough money to buy so much. I'll be out by the fall.
I am also wondering about finding out where to get some non japanese green tea. I saw a short blip on the TV the other day about a large percentage of green tea coming from fukishima prefecture not far from where the nuclear is unfolding.

One alternative for those avoiding the japanese chlorella, perhaps, is Nutrex brand Spirulina. This is loaded with chlorophyll and other goodies. While not precisely chlorella, I would expect some of the benefits are the same. They grow this in Hawaii.

Spirulina is good too. My only concern with it being grown in Hawaii is alot of radiation drifted right over hawaii after the initial disaster.

A little expensive but worth it. I called them their product comes from taiwan. They bought a very large amount and have stockpiled enough for 2 years apparently right after the japanese disaster. There was even a paper in the packing explaining that their product was pre-fukishima and safe.

Has anyone ever used Mercola's chlorella. It's harvested on a tiny island south of Taiwan. Biopure is just beyond our budget and Dr K has (or used to have?) a good relationship with Mercola. Wondering if anyone has experience they can share? The Mercola brand is $10/450 pills vs. Biopure's $44/300 pills. LLMD wants DS taking 30 pills/day with Core for KPU.
Also, if you chose to not use chlorella, what would be your other options? Don't think clay is viable for my DS9 - won't drink it. He will take charcoal pills and they seem to help. He is starting KPU treatment this week and I need options. Thanks.
