My old LLMD had me on malarone and zith-it put me into remission, but short lived.
My new LLMD has me on malarone, and mepron now, plus ART --anyone else on high doses for ducani?
I have felt pretty yucky the last 2 weeks since I upped my dose-tired,dizzy and my muscles really hurt.

Some doctors use clindamycin/quinine or ART and zith also. Mepron/zith is widely used.

I am taking a round of Coartem which is 3 days. Some people do it for 7. That is between malarone/zithro.
Other treatments mentioned on here are chloroquine/primaquine and larium (I don't know what with).

Why do I keep seeing that Mepron does nothing for Duncani? Is Malarone the only way to get to it?

I have not gotten a diagnosis yet, but Mepron has not yet given me any reaction. 3 weeks ago, I took a 5 day round of Malarone, and it made me herx within an hour....possibly this is the case....

My son was on Biaxin (clarithromycin) and Alinia.

marypart, Biaxin hits babesia ???

I have heard and read that Mepron doesn't do much for Duncani. That Malarone is preferred due to the second ingredient that it has which is very effective.

Lariam in addition to Mepron/Zith

Biaxin/zith plus Mepron and artemesia

Per well known LLMD; "Mepron + zithro used to treat Babesia but with higher dosage, especially with duncani"

I'm not sure anyone knows-
What doses are people on?
Posted by nefferdun (Member # 20157) on :
A lot of LLMDs are now doubling the Mepron (malarone) dose recommended before, especially for duncani. They also add Bactrim DS or plaquenil in addition to zithro and artemesinin.
People still don't get well. Now the new drug to consider is Coartem. Some doctors believe taking a round of this drug makes the mepron/malarone more effective. I hope so!

What is the dose of malarone they are recommending-

I read that it is not effective against the intrahepatic forms of malaria, only against the forms that are circulating in the red blood cells.
Wouldn't most of us who have been ill with Babesia for a long, long time have intrahepatic (and probably intra-other organs) loci of infection?
A dose of Lariam always seems to help for a short while but I constantly relapse.
I know some people who had been ill with what looked like Babesia for a long time who seemed to get places with Riamet/Coartem, so I wonder...
