This pretty much covers my kidneys, gallbladder, pancreas and liver. So far after almost 4 weeks on Invanz IV the only thing that was abnormal were my liver enzymes. But since I started the Castor Oil packs they are back down to normal!
It's expensive to get them done weekly but I'm on all IVs and I am rather attached to my organs so I don't want to take any chances. It only took 5 days on Invanz for my liver enzymes to up to go up to 107 (AST) and 200 (ALT). Imagine if I had waited a month before having the tests done, God knows how much my poor liver would have suffered!!
So this is MY CHOICE to have them checked weekly. They do that when people are on chemo why they don't with Lyme patients who are on high doses long term antibiotics I do not know. My LLMD is flexible b/c she has seen too many people losing their gallbladders and since we know I have the "dreaded genotype" that doesn't detox well... we are (or at least I am) keeping a close eye on my organs!
There is no right or wrong way to treatment just what you're comfortable with. I like to adjust my treatment depending on how much my body can handle.

scorpio,
So castor oil packs single-handedly fixed your liver enzymes? Is that a proven treatment? That's amazing! How do you do it? Put them above your liver?
Also, does your blood test show reference range for AST of 5-37 and ALT 15-65? If so - wow, your enzymes were way high! I'm surprised your doc didn't just tell you to get off the abx...?

Scorpio - also - why the pancreatic enzyme tests? Do some ABX affect those?

I am on rifampin, doxy, acyclovir and oxymatrine (a chinese herb to battle Coxsackie B). My doctor wanted liver function tests once a month for 3 months, then every three months after that. I also get a CMET and various infectious panels run every 4-6 months(before I see my doctor).
Best, Timaca

Great post.
Yes, I think the pancreas (Lipase/Amylase) should be checked. We are not doing that. and I want that added.
Also, we check kidney function to include creatinine levels and urine.
Ditto to the liver enzymes.
OBTW, the results came back normal for the kidneys on Rifampin and our urine is no longer orange. Doctor blessed it off. Either we are missing some other labs we need to be checking on, or, the body reestablishes itself w/r/to the meds, either pos or neg. Wish we could get to the bottom of this.
