My llmd prescribed 300mg twice per day. It has to be taken on an empty stomach for best results. I find this easy to do in the a.m. but difficult in the p.m.

In the Lyme Disease Soultion book, it mentioned taking the dose all at once. Does anyone know if that is okay and just as effective as taking it twice per day?

I would defer to YOUR doctor. No way I'd take it on an empty stomach though. I value my stomach.

I took it twice a day on an empty stomach, I didn't have any stomach problems and I did notice it to be more effective on an empty stomach.

I would think it would be more effective taken twice a day even if it is taken with food.

IF I was going to take it orally we would have done 600mg once per day a few hours after dinner and before bedtime (so not quite on an empty stomach). She said it's more effective to take ONE high dose per day to reach a desired level then taking it twice a day.

But we decided to do IV instead 600mg/day instead.

Thanks everyone. I guess I'll call my dr. Seems there are many opinions out there. I did read that it is 36% less effective when you have food in your stomach and I want to get the full effect so I can get well. I'm just such a snacker at night and its a hard habit to break. I'll post what my dr. says.

It has a pretty short half life which is twice a day is better to keep the levels higher in your system.

Well, I emailed my dr. and asked if I could take 600mg in the a.m. instead of 300mg twice per day and she wrote back and said, "yes." No explanation but said it was okay. Thought I'd share.
