I hope someone can tell me what might be going on here. I am currently taking doxy 100 x 2 daily just til I get to my first appt with a LLMD. I hear it may be under dosed. What happened last night was all of a sudden I was so dizzy and nauseaus like I was drunk or something. Then this morning it is all over again except that now my head and ears are so tight that my head is dizzy and nauseaus again. I wonder if this is what yoou all refer to as a herx from the doxy? Or is this just another symptom since I am under medicated right now. I am trying to understand all of this but it gets confusing. So sick right now. I have no idea what to do or what to take right now. If you can help me, I'd appreciate it. thanks!

oh and I forgot. My nose is also tingling? Weird I know but it is.
Then I started sneezing 5 x in a row. I never do that - I don't even have allergies like that.
I thought maybe it was because I was relieving some of that head pressure? If it did...it's back already.
of course this may not have anything to do with lyme at all.

dizzy and nauseated was, for me, from the doxy. it was a doozy of a drug for me, nausea never let up, so glad to be off it. Ginger tea helped a lot, also started taking ginger in a pill. the nose could be nerve stuff, but make sure you don't go out in the sun! i am also sneezing an awful lot so i asked my llmd about it. she really had no answer.

When did you start taking the doxy?

I have improved dramatically on 200mg of doxy (100 2x daily), but it might have been the week worth of flagyl that kickstarted things, because the doxy really didn't do much for me before that was added in there...
Anyway, I am confused about doxy and herxing. Doxy is bacterostatic, meaning it doesn't kill the bacteria it just keeps it from growing (and eventually dividing, as bacteria do). So, if the doxy isn't killing the bacteria, how is a herx reaction going to happen? Is it the immune system taking over to kill the weakened bacteria, or what?
I probably should ask this in a separate thread but, I'M LAZY!

Your LLMD will test and treat you for other infections that ticks carry.
Many of us experience dizziness, nausea and head pressure with Babesia. It's treated with antimalarials.

Regarding the statement that doxycycline is bacteriostatic, I believe that is only true at low doses. This is what Burrascano says about the subject:
"The TETRACYCLINES, including doxycycline and minocycline, are bacteriostatic unless given in high doses. If high blood levels are not attained, treatment failures in early and late disease are common. However, these high doses can be difficult to tolerate.
For example, doxycycline can be very effective but only if adequate blood levels are achieved either by high oral doses (300 to 600 mg daily) or by parenteral administration." (page 13)
