So..as some of you may remember...my now 3.5 year old daughter was bitten by a tick in April of 2010. It was in the upper fold of her ear. It had been there for at least 2 days. This was before my lyme dx..so I knew nothing.

Long story short....after I was diagnosed in May of 2010 and learneda bout lyme, I became very concerned with my daughter. I brought her to a well known LLMD in CT, who did a phone consult with Dr. J. THey both thought she was fine as, by that time, it was 12 weeks post bite and she should have been showing something by then.

A year later..all is fine. She is a happy little 3.5 year old girl. Very pleasant, smart, energentic, funny, etc. A princess!

But I do worry that something is lurking somewhere.

A few weeks ago, I noticed that her tongue seemed a bit white..like she has some mild thrush. It isn't a thick coating like you see when you google thrust. It is just a white tongue.

I do worry this means borrelia is active someplace. I know before I was dx'd I seemed to have an abundance of yeast in the mouth.

Suggestions on what to do? It is likely nothing...or if it is yeast, it is likely due to the handful of times she went to bed without brushing her teeth, thereby allowing yeast to grow.

I don't want to stick her unnecessarily. But at the same time..I do worry something is hanging out..even though Dr. J says he felt she was fine (and he would know.)

Thanks,

Not every tick carries Lyme...and you have a confident opinion from a well respected LLMD.

If she wasn't tested thru Igenex, maybe it would ease you if she was.

To worry is expected, especially when you've been sick.

Might I suggest the IGeneX urine test? That way no trauma for her by being "stuck" with needles.

If I were your kid, I am sure I'd like that idea a lot better than being stuck with needles.

What has her diet been like? Has she been swimming a lot? One can have yeast or candida without Lyme.
I hope everything works out!

Hi bcb,
I have a daughter who is the same age. Was this early in the morning when you saw the white coating? Could it just be that her tongue needs cleaning (i.e. the white coating that builds up overnight)?
I know I have a tough time getting my child to stick her tongue out to clean her tongue, so I can never get her tongue to be fully clean.
Just a thought.

Hi bcb,

Dr R. thinks I may have passed my lyme and co infections to my son while I was pregnant with him. He is just turning 3 and Dr. R sent us the IGeneX urine test kit. I'll let you know if it picks up anything or if we need to stick him as well [Frown]

Hi bcb:

Well part of this disease is it adds a whole new set of worrys. I see Lyme and or worry about ticks all the time, never before.

If this is the only symptom without the normal fatigue, etc. then I would guess its not lyme BUT as a father I can understand the worry. Maybe do some of the non invasive tests to ease your mind.

It can be something else besides Lyme.

Well Ryan's urine test came back positive for lyme. We got the results this morning (on his birthday). Great present! I would suggest you do the Igenex urine test too. It's totally non invasive and definitely does pick it up. This will at least put your mind at ease. You can message me if you need any of the info about cost, etc. Good luck.
