Has anyone else found that certain supplements meant to help nerve pain actually cause yours to increase??? I have that issue with B6 and with alpha lipoic acid....However, B12 makes it feel better...

I wonder if lyme nerve pain is different from other neuropathic pain and therefore responds better to certain "never supplements"..

Anyone have a similar experience?

Thanks!

I did think that taking super b made the nerve pain worse. I am still taking b12. Have you found anything that does work?

Some people are sensitive to ALA .. do a search here. There's a thread from about 10 days ago.

OH my goodness. That is so odd you posted this. I just wrote in the Thread about Nerve Testing and I just got back from the neurologist office.

They were digging into my onset and seeing what meds or supplements I stopped or started and they were asking about multiple vitamins or b complex etc.

Then said that many people do not know that too much B6 will cause nueropathy and its symptoms and they do not realize they are overdoing it because the B6 can be in various supplements and they are getting too much.

I am not taking a multi or even a b complex or any other things at this time but I have done that and it is good to know.

SO.. According to the doctor.. You got to be very careful with B6 and make sure you monitor your supplements in total and that you are not over dosing yourself.. to cause nuerological symptoms.!

I have that reaction to curcumin, which is for inflammation. it makes me hurt worse. My husband loves it, and has cut his pain meds by 1/3 since using only a small dose of it.

I also have that reaction to Neurontin, a med for nerve pain. It makes my pain 50 times worse.

A significant minority of people have paradoxical reactions to meds and supps., even healthy people.

Wow, thanks for all of the responses...

Yes, I just took one Vitamin B6 and it set it off..Ugh!!! Unbelievable...

So many of us have nerve pain from lyme that you would think there would be at least some consistency in the supplements that really help our nerve pain...

If I take the wrong thing, like B6, my nerves will actually start pounding/pulsating throughout my body...You can feel it...So weird!!!

The ONLY things I can take which seem to help my nerves are Vitamin D, fish oil and B12 (however, I know others on this board report nerve pain when taking this???) I just don't get why there's not someone who can really tell lyme patients what will help heal their nerves.....(besides abx)...

Really, this is the million dollar ? I've been asking for years. I've been on so many meds for nerve pain and always felt little relief. The B-12 addresses the cause (at least for me, part of the cause) but does not really help with the pain. Too much B-6 is worse, I've been off all B6 for 6 months. I've tried cymbalta twice which never did a thing for me. I've tried topamax which did help my migraines but did nada for nerve pain. Neurontin helped me when I was on a high dose of it, so I recently got more to see if it will at least take the edge off. I'm sure they won't let me take the dose I used to but maybe it will do something. I just had to try something as my nerve pain has increased a lot lately.
The other pill I was given I think was called tramadol, but I could be wrong. Didn't help at all. It's been probably 5 or more years so I'm not sure the name is right. vioxx didn't help at all either.
