Okay. So I went today to have a massage after a Dr. appt. It was a combination massage with deep tissue, shiatsu and hot stones.

I've been really stiff as of late and the massage hurt more than ones I have had in the past which is fine b/c I've been so stiff.

But some strange things also happened while I was lying there!

My feet and hands were ice cold at times but my legs felt like they were burning. My right middle toe went numb and for a minute there, and I started to freak out! Had to wiggle my toes to make sure I could still move them.

I had periods where I thought I was just going to stop breathing. Would take a deep breath and feel fine after.

About half way through the massage, I get a rush of warmth throughout my entire body...head included. This lasted only about 10 seconds, then my entire body went numb. I couldn't feel it....if that makes any sense!

Again...I got a bit freaked out and wiggled my fingers and toes and shifted my arms to make sure I could move them. When I did move them, they felt like playdough! I started thinking...omg...what if I become paralyzed from this massage! Very irrational thinking that I just made myself stop!

I tried very hard to relax and enjoy the rest of the massage which was hard to do.

Anyway, when I was done and got up to leave, I felt very very strange! I walked out to the front of the salon and it all felt surreal. The dim lights bothered my eyes....the people all looked funny to me and everything just seemed strange.

The drive home was odd as well. I had a very difficult time even concentrating on the road. Got out of the car to walk in the house and I felt like my legs were going to give out on me. I just needed to lie down.

On top of all of this, I now cannot stop going to the bathroom. Sorry...tmi I know...but this is just to freaking weird for me.

I did start treating for parasites though too so I'm wondering if that just coincidentally started doing something more today.

Anyone else ever get like this after a massage?

Keep drinking water!!! Massages release toxins. One massage therapist looked in her book, which said that Lyme patients should not get deep tissue, rather the lighter massages were better.

I found massage to be a great tool for moving toxins and used them regularly. But you do have to drink a lot before and after.

Thanks six! I'll make sure to load up on water! Drinking some now actually. And no more deep tissue massage for me!! I wish I would have known that prior. Oh well, you live and you learn!

I just checked my temp and now I have a low grade fever. My normal temp is usually around 97.9 but it was just 99.9. Not to high but I just feel awful!

I could smack myself! I wonder if a detox bath would help.

Yup, like Six said, massages release toxins.

When I first started going I felt like I'd been hit by a truck the next day.

Now I only go for gentle hot stone massages.

Drink lots of water. Drink lots before your next massage too.

My therapist tells me to take a detox bath after each massage and then take a nap.

Hope you feel better!

Thanks mom. I hope I feel better tomorrow! I have work. I have intermittent FMLA but I always feel bad calling out. I need to get over that.

I called my massage therapist for an appointment. I told her I had Lyme and she freaked. She said she couldn't work with me as she could get it.....

Just didn't sound right, but she was adamant.....

Good info above if I ever do have a massage.....

Well, I woke up this morning with an awful headache and I'm still running a low grade fever. MY neck is very stiff but my back feels better.

I did take a bath last night and that seemed to help but I had a very difficult time falling and staying asleep.

There was a laser light show in my head every time I closed my eyes! And I felt like things were crawling on me even though there wasn't.

I did end up calling out of work but now I feel bad. If there is anything that would get in my way of making progress in my treatment, it is my type A personality and my do, do, do for others.

I'm trying though and today is going to be all about me. [Smile]

I have been going for 2 years, and get a fairly gentle massage although she has been working deeper lately. I usually feel good during but awful after. I definitely have an increase of symptoms but I always looked at it like I do abx. It is necessary to get better, Although I don't know that for sure. I think it pushes the bacteria out and the die off makes you feel bad. I'm sticking with it but would like to hear more feedback.

Uggg.....massage would knock me down for days. Pain all over. Too many toxins released. I stopped getting them.

Accupuncture was much more tolerable for me.

Yep, i got a half hour deep tissue today on just my back. my back is like concrete. seriously...you could roll a truck on top and I'd yell "Harder!"

But, they make me brain foggy after, along with insomnia. I took an epsom bath and am about to take the rest of my meds for the night and pass out.

I only get deep tissue once or twice a month.
the rest are fu fu massages (which I used to hate) but now I understand the importance of them.

Either way...youre getting toxins moving around...just make sure they get OUT.
