Gosh, it seems like I am bothered by the 'strong' smells of fragrances and other scents. Is there any connection to lyme orother TBI??

Maryland - I was so sensitive to smells and got appalling migraines as a result. I even got one off the smell of a friends deodorant. Dish soap, laundry soap etc etc, nearly incapacitated. Soon as I was treated for lyme and bart, no more migraines. Smells are still unpleasent but no more migraines yippee

heighented sense of smell seems to accompany my mcs (i am also light senstive and sound sensitive)

is your sense of smell just stronger... or are odors particularly chemicals causing you symptoms?

if the smells of chemicals are making you sicker you may want to look into multiple chemical senstivities (mcs)

It is not uncommon to develop multiple chemical sensitivity (MCS). Heightened sense of smell and reactions to things that don't bother most ppl and more.

For me this is usually related to toxins. You may get some relief from detoxing more.

This is not uncommon with Lyme disease, I've had this problem for years. It is much better than some years ago after treatment.

Do some seaching on Lyme + MCS---lots out there on the net

Wow, thanks! I had absolutely no idea this symptom is not just in my head!

Before I left my previous job (to start a family), I would ALWAYS politely inform one of my co-workers that I thought he put too much cologne on. I mean, this was a daily occurrence. In fact, I was so bothered by his smell (don't get me wrong- it was a nice smell), that I even questioned other co-workers (in private) as to their opinions of his cologen. Fr years not one of my co-workers agreed with me.

Again, thanks for all of your replies!

PS... I don't think cleaning chemicals bother me. But I will be more in tuned to that:)

I tried to be nice and tell people they smelled awfully fluffy to make excuses to not be around...LOL

Meaning they smelled nice it was just amplified to intolerance for me...

Adrenal Exhaustion can cause major smell sensitivity.

Not uncommon at all.

Inflammation of the cranial nerves play a big role in a heightened sense of smell and often times taste.

Can this come and go? Some days I can't smell anything and other days I can smell a frog fart out in the yard. Taste seems tocome and go also...

Well, Maryland, I have just had a HUGE breakthrough in this regard, so read closely here -

I am currently able to pass by open bleach cleaning buckets and handle smells in store aisles, hardly smelling anything at all,

whereas previously, I was out the door if any of that was nearby, being extremely MCS and overwhelmed by the smells.

I just recently finished six months of sweat detoxing once a week on a far infrared biomat - there's also far infrared portable tents and large cabinets -

the goal is to build up a sweat, which releases toxins through the skin, then shower off right away.

Sooo, the theory is that we have too much toxic build-up in us, as a result of the illness (neurotoxins and inflammation) and other toxin exposures, and the liver is too overwhelmed.

Some of us can detox easily and others of us have weaker genetics for clearing toxins from the liver.

There is a detoxigenomic liver test, through Genova Diagnostics, that shows our ability to detox. My test showed several detox pathway difficulties.

Anyway, it feels like a new-found freedom, and I will do more in time to keep clearing.
