How do you tell if blood is from diarrhea or c. diff? Sorry for the gross question everyone! I started rifampin yesterday, watery diarrhea a few times (same thing happened when I started the zith so no big deal there). The part that worries me is this morning I have cramps and a decent amount of blood in the toilet each time I go. I am a worrier by nature so of course my first instinct is to panic! I emailed Dr R's PA to see what they think but would really appreciate any advice or thoughts from all of you! I want to get better but I can't see killing myself in the process!

Best thing to do is talk with your doctor. Blood in the stool should not be ignored. It could be something simple like hemorrhoids, but it could also be something more serious.
To determine if you have C. diff, a lab test is required....you have to submit a stool sample.

Are you sure it is blood? I think that rifampin can turn our tears urine and stool discolored.
you could check with your pharmisist to see if that is possible.
in my experience sometimes it takes more than one stool test to test positive for c diff (at least it did for me when i had it)
I hope your drs pa gets back to you quickly.

My understanding is that C. Diff. makes extra stinky diarrhea...
Abx are known to cause microscopic colitis, which bloody stool is a symptom of, so be sure to contact your doctor...bloody stool is nothing to play around with
