I tried to search for it on the net, but I can't find any clear explanation.

Is there any scientific reason why lemons detox the body? Is it only because they alkalize the body?

It's amazing also how controversial this therapy is. If you google "lemon detox", half the links are trying to "debunk" it!

The best way to ans. this question is...it does many, many good things for us.

Its great for liver detox ++++ I only listed two sites...there are hundreds of sites out there. Do a seach on (lemon + water) - (lemon + Cayenne peper) (etc)...Cayenne pepper is also great for the liver.

I'm no expert, but all I've ever heard is that it alkalizes the body, and that it "helps digestion", both good reasons for drinking it. I have never heard that it detoxifies.

I believe it balances out the acidity levels in the body. Works well to clean out the liver.

It makes the PH in your body alkaline and aids in digestion. I cannot tolerate it, it actually gives me severe heartburn> i have never liked citrus anyway

Wow! Great article, Philly! Your research skills are always impressive. [Smile]

The coolest thing I learned from that article is that raw lemons are one of the only foods that are cationic. This aspect alone is a great explanation for why it is good for detox. But of course there are all the other reasons, also.

If you click on the resources tab at the top in that link, there are some really interesting articles you can read through. You should check some of them out.

TF suggested I drink it and it helped clear up my thrush. I noticed a difference pretty quickly (thanks TF!). I actually put a hunk of lemon in my bottled water along with a little stevia and it is easy to drink it all day.

Mouse - can I ask you what regimen with the lemon water you were using to help clear up your thrush? How many lemons per day? Did you drink it all at once, or did you sip it slowly throughout the day? I've never heard that it helps with thrush.

I keep getting this stuff growing on my tongue, and I'm using every trick in the book to try to get rid of it, but it's very persistent.

What does thrush look like?

It's usually a white coating on the top of the tongue, and sometimes you can see it on the inside of the cheeks and the top of the mouth. Sometimes it can be brown or black instead of white.

If it gets very bad, it can look very very disgusting. Google "oral thrush" for some nasty pictures! (Or don't, if you want to keep your appetite! [Smile] ).

For some reason, mine is always brownish-black. I've tried to find a good answer for this, but so far I haven't found a clear explanation.

Thrush should be taken seriously, because it usually starts in the mouth before it enters the gut. If you have oral thrush, then every time you eat something you are sending yeast into your GI tract, and it will cause lots of other problems.

I'm not sure exactly how much you are supposed to use, but I use about 1/4 - 1/2 of a lemon in a medium size water bottle. I squeeze the juice out of it into the water then squish the lemon quarter into the bottle. Then I add about 1/2 a packet of stevia and shake it up. I drink it whenever I would normally drink plain water. I make the bottles up in the morning so I have plenty for the day. It is surprisingly easy to get enough this way. I think the lemon water changed the pH of my body and the thrush did not like the change...

I also don't snack during the day which helps the thrush starve. And no sugar at all. Brush teeth and tongue often. There are tongue cleaners available at dentists' offices or pharmacies.

I got a black tongue when I used flagyl (metronidazole) but not with any other AB. It is a known side effect of flagyl. If you aren't on flagyl then I'm not sure what is causing it. I do notice that my thrush is quite susceptible to staining (turning brown when drinking coffee, for example), so maybe something you are eating is darkening it.
