I would love to figure out this mystery. For 3 years I have been trying to get a serious test done for Lyme Disease. I had a tick bite with bullseye rash. But, they will only do the standard ELISA test without bars - and,it came back negative. Then I was put on Doxy for 10 days and my doctor said that was long enough to kill the disease if I had it. When I mentioned that I had read otherwise she got very defensive and kept interrupting me. What gives? Are they afraid of the CDC? Why do they get a "deer in the headlights" look when you mention Lyme Disease?

Uhhh--- my heart goes out to your situation. Please make it an absolute priority to be treated ASAP.
People are afraid of what they dont know. Its hard to understand and be sympathetic when you've never been there-- meaning the Dr's just dont understand how much we suffer, so they dont go out of their way to help.
Please get treatment, the longer you wait the harder it is. This disease and ruin your life and steal your sanity.

I assume they are afraid because Lyme is so complex and they may not have enough training to deal with all the complications that can result. All In all they don't want to take responsibility out fear. It's a shame.

Imo, it can be summed up in one word....FEAR!
Many of these docs know the controversy. They know about other doctors having to go to trial. They know that is they actually start treating this disease the way it NEEDS to be treated, their lives will change forever.
It is like they open the door to peek in and then slam it shut. They are afraid to make that leap b/c if they did, things would change too much for them.
They may go from being a well respected doctor by their peers to an outcast. They will be hounded by insurance companies. They are afraid that they may be treating someone "needlessly" with all those meds.
Think about it. the treatment for lyme really goes against almost everything they have learned in school. And what they learned just can't be wrong! In many cases, it is just too much a risk to take.

I'd like to add: Many doctors have confessed that just before they graduated from med school, they were told by their peers: "If you want to keep your job, stay away from Lyme disease. Just don't deal with it."

Read Pam Weintraub (SP?) book, Cure Unknown. It is the best explanation you will ever find.
Many doctors have been persecuted for treating chronic lyme so those that stay in ignorance, are protecting themselves. What you don't know, won't make you feel guilty for killing someone when you ignore their illness or misdiagnose it. If you don't treat because you don't believe chronic lyme is valid, having never investigated it yourself, you won't wind up in court trying to keep your license to practice.

Simple, they don't have a clue how to treat. Just my input.
Doctors what to treat what they know and that they can fix.. Even the LLMDs have different treatment plans.
We are all different and complicated and they are at a loss or won't take or have the time to give us the treatment we need. I have tried so many with no results..
