Hi,

I know the bad side of abx is that it will kill good bacteria along with bad bacteria. Is the same true for IV abx like Rocephin or others? That may be a stupid question but since the beneficial bacteria live in the small and large intestine, would abx taken through IV reach them?

Also, what about borrelia forming cysts and hiding from abx? Any truth to that?

Thanks,
~k

Hi, you know, I was just wondering about that myself today. I really don't know but somebody here must know.
I was going to take that route but realized I had candida yeast which mimics lyme symptoms.
Are you on the IV yet?

Hi Kerry23,

I have not started anything yet. So far I have had a low CD57 (20) and I am still waiting on my Igenex Lyme and co-infections panel. Once I get those results I will decide what to do.

Oral antibiotics are absorbed in the GI tract then distributed throughout the body. IV antibiotics bypass the absorption step, by starting in the blood.

So yes, IV antibiotics will reach your gut and they will kill good and bad bacteria.

Whatever you take, take at least 100 billion CFU's per day. Wish someone had told me that 10 yrs ago!

My issue right now is that I get such bad die off from even a tiny amount of probees or homemade fermented veggies that I am unable to function. I am a database programmer (work from home) and it's already tough with the brain fog I have. When I take probees, the brain fog gets so bad I am unable to work. This really scares me and concerns me.

I was up to 20 billion cfu earlier this year and off the beta blocker I take for POTS. My iron levels were high, I donated blood, ended up with low blood volume and since then have been unable to tolerate the probees. Any thoughts on this? I didn't know that you shouldn't donate blood with POTS. I have always donated in the past to get my iron levels down but that was before I had POTS.

Thanks,
K
