I'm pretty sure my gastritis is back. Lots of uncomfortable abdominal pressure, belching, some burning.

I can't take PPI's such as Prevacid--I get very bad anxiety on them. I can tolerate an acid reducer like Zantac, but it dries me out and makes me sleepy.

I'm trying cat's claw, but since I need to ramp up slowly on the dosage, that doesn't seem to be helping much so far.

Anyone know of some good home remedies for gastritis?

DGL might help. Enzymatic therapy makes several chocolate flavored versions.

You should try Prelief. It neutralizes the acid in food and beverages. I personally have not tried it, but think it's a good option.

Check this out. Sometimes it's LOW stomach acid instead of high that causes acid reflux. Mine was caused by low acid.

Taking Thorne Biogest for this problem changed my life.

Six,

Very interesting. How did you figure out that you don't have enough acid? Did you do the baking soda test?

Aloe Vera juice is what I gave my son. Slippery elm tea is good too.

I was already taking the Biogest before I found the test. I don't remember who recommended it to me.

You're going to hate what I have to say, but...

Consider doing an elimination diet - see what is aggravating it...

Also consider treating for parasites.

Aloe vera is a mucus membrane irritant and therefore I would not use it if I had gastritis.

Slippery elm, DGL, marshmallow root, fenugreek, burdock root - all have mucillagenous properties and therefore are soothing and healing for the mucus membrane.

You also will want to look into anti-inflammatories, such as turmeric, ginger root (don't use if you have gallbladder problems), etc.

Digestive enzymes - I myself have plenty of stomach acid, and find I can't handle enzymes with HCl in them. The enzymes I take are vegetarian (no animal-derived enzymes) and they are gentle on my chronically inflammed stomach. When I don't take them with meals, I get belching, indigestion, and a lot of upper abdominal discomfort. I use two different products, one for high protein foods, and one for carbs & fats. PM me for more specifics if interested.

It is also important to take Vitamin C and other acidic supplements, as well as many medications, with a meal or snack to reduce the chances of irritation of the stomach lining.

Take care,

Prelief is wonderful. Also L-glutamine powder, but keep dose no higher than 4.5 mg. daily to avoid neuro problems. I cannot do without either of these.

I can't imagine that cat's claw would HELP the issue.

I was under the impression that Cat's Claw was an anti-inflammatory?? I know it goes after Lyme (& possibly Bart), and if Lyme is the cause of the gastritis, wouldn't killing the Lyme eventually be what needs to happen to get rid of the gastritis?

Maybe, but I know I personally cannot take many herbs due to GERD.
