Hey guys, ive been on b12 shots for 4 months, I feel theyve really helped out a lot with my energy levels, numbness etc.

Went to a regular doc the other day and had blood work down, B12 level is 1,999, so she told me to stop taking the shots.

Well, it's been over 2 weeks and I feel like Im backsliding, no energy to exercise (walking), numbness increasing in arm and lips, wooziness has increased and my lips starting cracking yesterday.

So what would you guys do? start the shots again?

Could it be possible that Im still B12 deficient and the test is lying? I just feel all my symptoms are not coincidental...

Have you tested folic acid or B6? I am pretty sure that folic acid is included in B 12 shots.

You may be deficient in folic acid rather than in B12. Of course you could be deficient in both -- but usually the B12 test is fairly accurate.

Since you were getting shots I think it would depend on how long between the shot and the test to know whether you only had a temporary increase in B12 or if you have rebuilt your reserves -- the body is supposed to be able to store up to 5 years worth of B12.

I would retest the B12 now that you have skipped some shots and also test folic acid and maybe even B6 as well.

Folic acid and B12 deficiences have the same symptoms.

You didn't say but I assume you were getting weekly shots?

im currently taking folic acid and a multi.

I only give myself the shots when I start to feel the 'lead suit' feeling creeping in. Guess it worked out to be about once a week.

when i had the blood test done, it had been around 7 days since the last shot.

I have been peeing pink the last couple of times that i did the shot., but its taken me 4 months or more for it to finally do that.

Karen what is deplin?

Deplin is a prescription version of methylfolate - you can find a related version of folic acid for a lot less $$ from a good quality vitamin company (my opinion).

If your symptoms are going down hill not getting your B12 shots (and BTW, most B12 shots I know of do not include folic acid - but you should ask your doctor what is in your B12 shots to make sure), then it is likely you need to continue getting the shots. B12 is not toxic in large quantities, so there isn't any danger to having a really high blood level.

My daughter's B12 is very high - 3,000+, for no apparent reason. Hasn't had shots or heavy supplementation. Still trying to learn why.

sickofsick, Ive read that a couple of times researching this subject...I dont understand what would cause that either! Anyone have insight?

I dbl checked and what Im actually taking is B12 Folate (as Metafolin L-5-MTHF) and my B12 shots are pure methylcobalamin.

Well, here it is a little over 24 hrs since Ive had the shot and I feel sooo much better aside from the usual symptoms.
