Can ABX make symptoms and rash of Bartonella come out? does Bart herx?

I have been on ABX since May for Lyme. I was on zythro and doxy for the first 3 months... Last month my dr. tried to switch me to amoxy but that made me feel horrible so have been on Biaxin since early august. I am feeling much better.

But about a month ago I noticed a big deep scratch along my side under my arm...I didn't think anything of it, thought I may have done it shaving...

but just two days ago I noticed all these scratches on my upper arm. they look like scratches from a rose bush, but for the life of me can not remember scratching myself or being scratched there.

3 years ago, when Lyme and Co was dismissed as Firbomyalgia.

I had a small rash that looked like cat scratches and went to my doctor...she said it was absolutely Bart and gave me a z-pack (just a week.) and the rash disappeared.

So I do think I had Bart before, but no rash evidence since...could the long term abx bring it out of hiding. the other symptoms I have could be any and all co infection.

should I ask my dr. for a different abx that works on that too.

sorry this post got longer than I expected.

I am also wondering the same thing. I had many neurological symptoms occur 2 months ago. At first I thought it was a herx but they just keep getting worse.

Actually that is what happens. You treat one infection and another one emerges to take it's place. I treated borellia and then bartonella came out. Treated bart and then babesia hit me.

It sounds like you may still be infected. It would be very rare if a weeks worth of ABX was enough to kill it all.

My doc believes in treating Co infections like bart first before treating for Lyme disease

I was treating lyme for the last couple of years but would always relapse after coming off antibiotics

That is probably because I was not being treated for Bart

My wife gets scratches like you mentioned out of the blue, they will just appear and migrate to different parts of her body

A few symptoms of bart are
ice pick like headaches
photophobia
anxiety
reflex sympathetic dystorphy
cardiac problems
gut problems
plantar fascial pain
burning pain
night sweats
weight loss
neurological symptoms
foot pain, sore soles
enlarged lymph nodes
rash that looks like red or purple stretch marks
cold hands and feet
intestinal infection
blood thinkening
sore throat
agitation
insomnia
confusion
lower abdominal pain
Phychiatric problems

yes. This is what happened for me. Treated Lyme for 6 months, Bart symptoms went through the roof. Treated Bart, Babesia symptoms became more pronounced.

I treated for LD for 18 months and then for LD and bart for another 6 months (tindamax and cipro) and felt like I had gotten back to 100%.

I was fine for a year until I got a sinus infection and took a z-pack. Within a couple of weeks, my LD/bart symptoms (sore hands and feet) started to come back. I don't know if the sinus infection or the z-pack triggered something, but I went back on tindamax and cipro and started feeling better within 2 weeks.

I seem to recall a recent article which indicated that doxy actually caused dormant, cyst-form LD to become active. It certainly is possible that zith or doxy could cause bart to manifest itself.

If you can tolerate it, cipro is good for bart. I like combining it with tindamax because tindamax has been shown to be the most effective abx for the spirochete and cyst LD forms. Also, cipro not only goes after bart, but it supposedly helps to shuttle other abxs into the body's cells where it can get to the TBDs.

I like Tindamax because it is an abx AND an anti-protozoal, which means it can also attack babesia.

BigJohn, where did you get that symptom list? I've been reading about bart since my 3 boys were diagnosed with it. Some of those symptoms are new to me. I had RSD (reflex sympathetic dystrophy) after breaking my foot 15 years ago. I had several other symptoms on that list too. I'm IGeneX and CDC positive for lyme.

Are there other abx beside rifampin and levoflaxins effective for Bart? I did not handle rifampin well so the doctor took me off of it. He also said he doesnt like to use the levoflaxins. I am allergic to cephalosporins.

Right now I am on mino with samento and cumanda.
