I have personally taken Rifampin as well.

I know that it makes you cry alot and feel suicidal, but I think if my husband could just

hear from other Lyme patients about their experiences it might cheer him up.

Also, to those that believe, could you pray for him?

He is in my prayers. I wouldn't be here if I didn't have faith and believe in my Higher Power guiding me every step of the way. God Bless you and your husband.

my close friend watched me closely and i cut the dose and slowly ramped up and in a week i was on full dose without suicide feelings

rifampin helped me dramatically...more than many drugs

it has helped many others

the crying and suicide feelings...imo...mean it is getting into the brain and killing bart ...

try to realize the bad feelings you are having mean it is doing its job

let missing take care of you

I was warned by my doc that those symptoms would happen when I was put on IV rifampin...

actually the office manager, who had/has lyme told me about how it affected him.. same as your husband...

I never had that reaction from Rifampin(more before actually) but it does happen...

Lyme and it's co-infections play havoc on your mental state.. Hang in there....

If he is suicidal, stop the meds and contact the doctor immediately.

People should not get to that point and have to suffer this way. There are other ways to deal with the diseases.

Please let us know what the doc said. In the meantime, hugs to you both!

Thanks everyone.

He read your replies and I think it helped him.

I had the same issues going through the Rifampin treatment too.

After 3 or 4 months it all went away.

I used to cry, and just wail and wail, for almost 8 hours a day.

It went away, and now I hardly cry at all.

I am in my third month and emotionally starting to feel better. I do back down to half doses for a day at a time if I cannot tolerate.

I would call the Dr. if he is really in a bad way. We dont need any heros ! Praying for you and your family missing !

I took one dose of the Red stuff IV and I felt like I was having a heart attack for an entire week. I couldn't take even a second dose.

This drug is very very powerful and it gets into the brain quickly.

I would reduce the dose and hold for now.

I almost ended up in ER starting at 600 mg. The second time around I ramped up slowly and did not have the same effect.... just felt spaced out all of the time.

prayers going out

I agree with Tincup and Lymetoo.

Call the physician immediately, stop meds. It may not be a good fit for him, or there may need to be a gradual dose increase. I personally didn't have many direct effects, but I felt horrible because Rifampin nearly inactivates the vast majority of opioid pain medications!

Rifampin is one of the strongest inducers of cytochrome P450 CYP4A etc, which is something that many LLMDs seem to forget to access the patient regarding. There are a lot of medications and supplements that this will effect!

I could not take that stuff.

I am so sorry you are going thru this. It is hard enough being sick without medicine making us sicker.

I am praying for you and your husband. God promises He never will leave us. Even though it may not seem like He is right there, but He is. Hold on to that and if you can, read the Psalms. They are very helpful and comforting.

PM me if you need any additional prayers or just someone to listen.

God bless you

I started on 300mg for 1 week then up to 600. I think its good to start slow to minimize herxing and the side effects. I have a lot of mental issues but nothing so serious, just really irritated and moody, and unmotivated. I hope your husband is okay. Best wishes.

Is he taking anything to detox and help remove the toxins from his body.

the Abt may be killing too many bugs at once and the body is not handling the die off.

Detoxing agents and binders may help him eliminate the toxins so he can tolerate the Abt.

I personally use Heel detox kit, chlorella and lots and lots of water....also lemon juice....but there are many others.
