I was interested in getting a bio-compatable crown for my back molar which I just had a root canal on- btw I didn't want to pull the tooth and it is the only root canal I have in my month, all other teeth are good.
I understand zirconium crowns are the least toxic, does anyone know how much money they should cost than porcelain? thank you, jeremy

I heard that Porcelain is often not strong enough in larger sizes and so needs to have some metals added to it for strength. Also I heard that of all the materials one could put in ones mouth that Zirconium had the least bad reactions. I've read this on several bio centered dentists sites. j

My orthodontist said it depends on what part of the country you're in.
I paid $1300 per crown for zirconium.
He said the east coast--actually he was talking about Boston where he had just been--charges a lot more.

I am against root canals and or crowns.I paid to remove them .When I got better I tried implants Zirconia .Actually I am against any work Root canal and crowns once you have Bart and or lyme.It is up to you .

I am too. But its the only one in my mouth and the only other option was removing the back mollar and putting in a bridge which many also have told me is not so great.

Zirconia and all porcelain are basically the same. And, for a molar, you are biting on it ALL the time. You need strength for it to hold up.
Porcelain fused to metal is the best. The metals they use are not a big deal. Ask for the dental lab msds on what the metal is if you are worried about the metal.
All crowns are around $1300 or more anymore.
Lava crowns are a 'name' of a type of zirconia/porcelain type. (like kleenex is a name of a tissue).
Google "all porcelain crowns" and you'll get a bunch of info. Or again, find out which lab your dentist uses and call them and get the msds sheet on what is in each type of crowns they have.

So metals in crowns do not contain mercury? I saw a biological dentist a couple of weeks ago for a consult. He said replacing the crowns were optional, so guess he knew metal was ok. Guess he threw the word "optional" in just in case I wanted to keep spending $$$$. LOL!
Is it safe to detox mercury after removing amalgams if crowns are not removed?

jer69... I'm in the dental field. Actually dental sales. They 'say' they are strong enough... but.... I don't know if I would personally put them on a molar in my mouth. It depends on one bite too.. how much of a locked in bite one has as far as how much contact each cusp of the molars get each time. You dentist should know which type to use depending on ones bite.
Again, labs can let you know the MSDS on each product material they use. They usually give that to the dr. also, with the finished crown. (% of metal etc)

A lot of integrative/alternative docs and biological dentists would say no to any metal in the mouth. It disrupts the flow of energy along the meridian.
jer - I would look more into the root canal situation. Since the tooth is dead, it's the perfect place for bugs to hang out and have a party. I've heard great things about using ozone to kill the bugs off, but I think they just keep coming back (still look into). As you know, in certain circles root canals are considered a huge no no, and are known to cause problems. I know healthy people who have them and seem fine. But those of us with Lyme and Cos it's a different story. I would research further.
Oh, and to answer your question. My zirconia crown was $1,100 (I think). Another dentist I know charges $1,500. Even though my crown is on a tooth with a root, I still watch it closely. I pray it stays healthy for a while. Otherwise I will do a snap-on or partial denture, or something like that.

The crown acumulates food under... Like bridges, bad stuff to do as you will end up losing the two teeth where bridges are laid on...
I have a partial, mine is made of metal (each tested for allergies for myself).
I am also looking for other solutions for the frontal teeth...
Implant is not a solution (not for me at the moment, too afraid of what can happen in the jawbone later...), so I wonder how to deal when you got just one frontal tooth with root canal and you want to get rid of it!
Partials are the least invasive, but do they look nice in front teeth?
Any suggestions?

You can do a fixed bridge for your front teeth. But that means the teeth on each side of need to be prepped for 'crowns'... bridge.. three units. I had to have one of my front tooth extracted because of a fractured root canaled tooth. No one knows I have the bridge.. it looks real and works find. All porcelain...
It's cemented in... but you're looking at the cost of like three crowns for this three unit bridge.
