Hi all!
I've been on 100 mg Doxy a day (ramping up to 400mg/day) and just took my third dose. I feel awful. Belly burning/stomach cramps, nausea, hot/cold. I've had nausea and the hot flashes all along, but not the burning feeling.

Is this a herx or do you think I'm not tolerating the Doxy well? I ate a banana before I took it, and a piece of toast afterward, and drank a bunch of water. I had no problems yesterday or the day before.

When I first started on the doxy it made me kind of sick but after about 1 week I was fine.

Make sure to take doxy with a full meal and a large glass of water, and sit up for at least 30 minutes after taking.

When my daughter first started treatment with abx, she began herxing within 3 hours, so yes some of this could be a herx, and some of it could be from not taking enough food, water etc.. DGL licorice can help with the burning feeling.

Thanks for the advice! I may try it with some milk tomorrow, tho that decreases absorption.

Magical Zofran took care of the nausea, but still having stomach cramps/burning that comes and goes.

Kinda weird that I had no probs until day 3? And that it comes and goes? Hopefully it's a herx, since the doxy is kind of a diagnostic test :-)

Maybe try ginger capsules to help with the nausea?

I had nausea as a lyme symptom (not while on Doxy) so it could be a herx.

Maybe take it with some oatmeal?

The hot/cold part sounds like herx to me but I'm not sure about the other. I do know the first time I took doxy and took it an hr or two away from food I was barfing everyday, I have to take it with food to avoid getting sick but I have no stomache problems when i take it with food. Toast and banana does not sound like enough food to me?

You need more food with your Doxy and no Dairy products with it. Toast & banana definately not enough. Meat, veggies, eggs, oatmeal, etc..just no dairy :-).

Also, if your taking the Capsules you might want to try the Tablets. The Tablets dissolve slower than the caps, so less nausea. I found they're much easier to tolerate than the caps.

Thanks everyone!

I wake up nauseous most days, so I have to make myself eat what I can. I'll try taking the Zofran an hour before the doxy tomorrow and try to eat a bigger breakfast.

Also, I'm on the tablets, so that's good.

I've taken doxy before with no stomach issues, but I guess time will tell whether it's the doxy or a herx.

Thanks again for your advice!

We do a protein shake w/doxy. She also does DGL and Ginger tea. The ginger tea about an hour before a meal, then the protein shake (non-dairy) with the doxy. Voila! No more stomach issues. Good luck!

Ralphi-

I just started doxy today so maybe we can kind of keep track of each other's progress (if you want).

I took it at 11:30 and around 3:30 a major wave of fatigue/drowsiness came over me.

I'm not sure what that means, kind of all new to it, like yourself.

Glad the stomachaches went away for you!

DEFINITELY must be taken in the middle of a good meal... not just a little food as an after-thought.
