Son has been doing well on Rifampin. His deep depression and rages have subsided. Doc wants to switch him to Ceftin for brain fog and joint pain. Can these drugs be taken together?
I guess I am reluctant to give up on a drug that has made him so much better.

I am prescribed Rifabutin and Ceftin together and it is a killer combo for me. Pulsing in M, W, F is strong enough to cause significant die-off. Not sure if Rifampin has the half-life of Rifabutin but aren't they related.

I recently started taking them together along with doxy, tindamax and probenecid. I would agree that if it is helping it would be better to keep on it as long as possible. Also im told rifampin should be taken with either doxy or a macrolide (zithromax or biaxin) to prevent resistance.

So glad it's been helping him! My mood swings and rages have subsided, too. But I would NOT stop the Rifampin until at least two months after his bart symptoms have stopped. Also, do not stop-and-go/pulse with that antibiotic, as it will bring out all the drug's horribel side effect and quickly create rifampin-resistant bartonella. Most people haev to treat at least one year. I switched from bart meds to Ceftin once, and ended up in the hospital ten days later from a bartonella relapse. Not a good idea! Trust your instincts, showmemom.
