My daughter is being treated for Lyme/Bartonella. Currently she has a PICC line in receiving 150mg Doxy twice a day and also Rifampin. She seemed like she was starting to get a cold earlier in the week. Head congestion and a runny nose. Her other symptoms were headache, achyness, which I thought was just a herx from starting the rifampin. Today she vomited once and has a fever of 101.5. I know the PICC isn't infected because she got her bandage changed. The vomit and fever came later in the day. Can the Rifampin cause a fever? Do you think this is a herx or just the common cold.
I tried to call the LLMD, but she had left for the day. The office said if the fever gets higher then take her to the ER, but everyone knows how that is going to go. I am waiting for her primary dr. calls us back he is a little familiar with her case.
Any suggestions. Thanks.

I don't know very much about PICCs but would think an infection can occur at any time. Doesn't matter if the bandage was changed.
up for more help!

Lymetoo is correct! You can have the line infection OR he site infection. I had the site infection and which was slower moving and I did have a temp. Line infection can move pretty quickly and cause sepsis... so you must watch for signs.
I'm not sure what she has... her symptoms could be herx, infection or a virus. And you're right sending her to the ER now is useless... even if she has an infection the culture won't come back for a few days and unless she's sepsis the ER doctor will NOT page Radiologist to pull the line! I had complications during the time my LLMD was out of the country and w/out her orders did wouldn't touch my line! I did ended up pulling the line though and had an new one put in.
So keep an eye on it... if she show signs of sepsis then rush her to the ER.
