So we went to the dr. today for my daughter today. The dr told us that the last time my daughter has a blood draw that band # 39 came up. She's had lyme and bartonella for 3 years now. The dr felt that the lyme was pretty much under control and we have been concentrating on the bart until now this test result came back.

The dr. thinks that she has gotten bitten again. We haven't found any ticks or any marks or anything. My question is after all this time can band # 39 just pop up on her lab work. She's never had this band before.

Any thoughts would be appreciated. My daughter is very upset over this and so am I. We just felt like she was starting to turn a corner a now this.

I am sorry you and your daughter are upset over band 39 showing up. How many bands did she have prior on this test?

Sometimes the meds that treat co-infections can treat Lyme also. It could be that her treatment for Bart made the Western Blot react on this band. To me, it seems possible for people to get fluctuating test results during treatment.

Some doctors believe the co-infections need to be treated first for Lyme treatment to be effective.

Since she is still being treated, I would not worry about this.

This was Igm or IgG?

lou - I honestly can't remember what she said. She now has 3 IGM and 3 IGG. At this point I can't remember...its just so much to consume when you are at the drs.

Western Blots can't tell you whether the infection is active or not according to my LLMD. He said to me that once it's established that you've been exposed, all you can do is treat based on symptoms, that all the WB can show is exposure.

So, if it had already been proven that she had Lyme, I don't know why she would be tested again.

They sent her test today out to Igenex...how long does it usually take to find out the results?

I don't think it's a problem either. Many times you can have different bands show up at different times. I never tested again after my first two tests either. No need to.

How is she FEELING?

tls, my blood went to Igenex today - yeah! - and the office told me it would be about 2-3 weeks for the results to be back

sorry to hear you are having this worry - hope the LN folks can help you clear it

Yes, can't really tell the stage of lyme from IgM and IgG results. I was just curious. Chronic cases sometimes produce no bands, but when treatment starts to work well, then the test may turn positive.

So, at the sickest the test is negative and when improving, it is positive. Sometimes. Mind bending.

Those studies that required patients to have positive tests were therefore biasing toward people who were not as sick, presumably.
