Avelox, Factive, and Levaquin are in the same class. They are all used to treat Bartonella (also good for Mycoplasma and CPN).

Omnicef is used to treat Lyme.

How do you know if you have BLO? Is this different from bartonela?

Omnicef for Lyme.

I took Levaquin for bartonella/BLO. This is a good article on it - http://www.healthcentersofamerica.com/information.cfm?id=140

Fluoroquinolones are dangerous for some people... but so is bartonella!!

Just be aware in case you have bad side effects like tendon pain or increased nerve pain.

My doc likes Levaquin best for Bartonella. Second choice is Avelox. Then third, I guess would be Cipro.

All should work, but I suppose some work better than others. Of course, as others have mentioned, that class of drug has some possible side effects too.

^ what about Rifampin? I thought rifampin was supposed to be a really good drug against bratonella?

Rifampin works great for bart.

My blood smear from Fry Labs came back indicating Hemobartonella/Hemoplasma. After much reading it might be necessary to treat BLO differently than Bartonella?

From what I have read Dr F. believes it to be a bacteria but treat like a parasite because it clings to the outside of red blood cells.

I believe he is now recommending a zith/mepron combo. I read Dr B. recommends Levaquin.

Been on a Rifampin/Doxy/Tindamax combo for a little over a month now. Wondering if I need to go in a different direction with the meds? My main symptom is neuropathy in both feet and upper back.

Any feedback or more info. is appreciated.

Thanks

BLO (bartonella-like organism) is a unknown organism(bacteria or virus).

Rifampin is supposed to be good for bart, but for me personally, it did absolutely nothing.

Cipro helped me with bart but I got tendonitis in both Achilles tendons from it and now I cannot take any fluoroquinolone...ugh!

It appears that the fluoroquinolone class of antibiotics are the best for bart, but cause alot of tendon issues...a big side effect. It works but beware of side effects...

I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that if you are on Rifampin, you also need to be on Zithromax.

That combo helped my daughter with the bart.

I also got plantar fasciitis (SP?) in my left heel from levaquin. It took me a year to clear up and I still feel pain from time to time.

So be aware of any tendon pain.
