I know of a little guy, 6 yrs old, in treatment and having major behavior issues like aggressiveness, ADD and major hyperactivity.
Do you know of something that might help, especially with the night terrors?

Dr Brownstein says that many cases of ADD and other behavioral problems in children are due to iodine deficiency. I'm not saying that's what this poor kid has, but it might be something worth looking into.
Hopefully others will give more suggestions.

He's been in treatment for 2 months or so and this just started since then. Could iodine deficiency happen so quickly?
He's been getting in big trouble in school - hard to bear for a good little guy.

Poor thing.....will he sit for a bath? Maybe try a warm epsom salt bath to help settle him down a little. Face a TV towards the bathroom so he can sit and soak while he watches cartoons?
I wonder if it could be a need for more detoxing - try lemon water, activated charcoal at bedtime.
I have also read & heard that herxing in children seems to be more neurological than physical.
It will get better as time goes on, but in the meantime....it sure is hard to watch. Hope he gets relief soon.

is he a lyme patient hens?
there is nothing more gut-wrenching than caring for a child with night terrors and other psych symptoms. i've been there.
personally i think most psych diagnosis are organic brain disease of some kind. toxins, or infection.
the toxin/infection gut to brain connection is big for children, as well as parasites. i always suggest binders for psych symptoms, they can give relief while you figure out the rest. epsom baths are good too, but you can't overdo them.
i would look a bit at what doc K's work with autistic children. tho the symptoms are more severe, i think it could well be the same fundamental problems.

Oh - 17hens, I thought he had ADD for a longer time. If he got it with Lyme, then it's probably a different story. Sorry for the wrong suggestion.
(Small sidenote: Most kids are deficient anyway. Just wanted to toss that in there).
I really like momintexas' idea about the epsom salt baths. They're very calming.

Yes, he's in treatment for lyme&co. All these started after treatment (within the last few weeks).
Posted by Mo (Member # 2863) on :
ok so he has lyme.. or probably bartonella, babesia or bartonella too. mycopplasma fermentans also goes into neuropsychiatric sx.
so, weeks into tx this is neuropsychiatric herxheimer i would guess, if it goes on and on it may be infection getting the upper hand.
still, i would look to doc K on lyme and autism in children, and use baths and much care with finding the right binders with detox. earthing is wonderful for kids too, and they like to do it.
this could be complicated.

**** It can be bought over the counter since it is the natural kind. I'd ask his Dr. about it. Camomille and valerian root teas help too Also, there is a homeopathic calming agent for kids available at Walmart of all places. I believe it is called Calmsforte. Its little white pills you put under the tongue and you keep doing it until they calm down. I've been there and it is hard to watch kids suffer. Truesun

My 8 year old has the same thing. We keep her off of HFCS, artificial coloring and any artificial sweeteners.
Her symptoms are worse if she's constipated. Therefore, fiber gummies and metamucil(no coloring) with lots of water. Actually, most of the antibiotics keep the kids pooping.
Daily exercise of some sort helps too. Even if it's just a rebounder, anything to get their lymphs moving.
Stay heavy on the probiotics and florastor for kids. (Do not use florastor capsules for kids.)
Lots and lots of reassuring. The psych symptoms my kid has is overwhelming They need to know they aren't crazy and you still love them. We've started with therapy and that is helping a little.
We let her sleep on a cushion thing in our room on her really difficult nights.
Good luck.

You guys are just the best. Have I told you lately that I love you? I know it's a really smarmy thing to say, but it's true. You have no idea what your help means. Oh, yes, you do.
(((hugs to all of you)))

can we get confirmation on the dose?
Posted by ticksickfamily (Member # 22786) on :
We have used Apple Pectin (Solgar brand)in the past as a binder at bedtime to help with sleep issues with our 6 year old daughter- about half a teaspoon in some yoghurt. Fortunately she is past this night time herxy stage now with the dreams and itching skin and sleep disturbance but it is stressful at the time.

Ammonia in the brain (from Lyme & possibly other coinfections) can cause neuro symptoms. Yucca Root Powder is on the Yasko Autism protocol and detoxes ammonia. I don't know what dose...but once I started taking the Yucca Root powder, I found the ammonia smell about my body really decreased.
Yasko also recommends GABA for calming. I have been taking it and it works wonders for the anxiety and helps me with more restful sleep (improved sleep quality, also helps me to fall asleep more quickly).

We got to the other side of night terrors before we started biological treatment of my daughter's problems.
A visit to a (horrified) ENT (extreme pressure in her ears - literally off the charts - which was relieved via ear tubes) and beginning occupational therapy for sensory processing disorder stopped the night terrors.
It is a starting point, not an ending point, but night terrors are really stressful for families, and each layer of progress can renew the family's strength to keep pushing forward.
I also agree that it could be a psych herx.
Careful with binders, as constipation in little ones can cause additional psych symptoms.

I would really encourage you to look into flower remedies.
They are 100% safe, easy to take, and very effective.
The Bach Flower essence Rock Rose (for inner peace and tranquility when facing great challenges; deep fear, terror, panic) would be great for the terrors.
Flower Essence Society (FES) makes essences too:
Chamomile (for the hyperness), St Johnswort (for disturbed, fearful dreams; fear of the dark or of going to sleep, traumatic nightmares)
You can purchase either brands online at IHERB.COM

Please be careful about what you share concerning your child's treatment. We have evil lurkers who love to cause trouble for parents of Lyme patients.
One such person was banned less than 2 wks ago.
**flower essences and the like are not too concerning, though!**

I have passed on all the info given here to the person who needs it and it was all so very appreciated. Thank you all for your time and concern.
Anyone is welcome to PM me any info they think might help.
Thank you, Tutu, for protecting us the way you do. You know the risks we take trying to help our children even when we are innocently clueless (about creepers).
