Chuck, what does that mean? Lymetoo, thanks for that great Western Blot explanation link - I'm going back to read it again. Sixgoofykids - oh boy has he ever had symptoms - for 3 years. Diagnosed with POTS 3 years ago (challenging enough) but symptoms have progressively gotten worse and more varied and random - things that I can't attribute to just POTS, pain, weakness, heavy fatigue, confusion, difficulty thinking, speech errors, vision problems, hair loss, genital pain, urinary issues, constipation, chest & rib area discomfort, low abdominal pain - along with the POTS stuff of lightheadedness, heart palpitations - and some schizophrenic behavior (doctors want to put him on an antipsychotic). He still has been able to work and do things, but the symptoms, depression, anxiety cover so much of his life, that he hasn't really been able to start life yet. This began just weeks past his high school graduation - turned 22 yesterday.

I have a database of 326 IGeneX results. 34 +++ is unique.
For band 34: 34 were + or ++ No +++ nor ++++ 62 were IND
34 is a significant band. And a +++ is a very strong reaction!

Wowww. I guess there's no question he has Lyme. Although I knew I'd be surprised if he didn't, it is just taking awhile to sink in. So I'm still not sure what the ** 34kDa +++ really means for him.

Has he started treatment yet? Does he have chronic pain?
Even our doctor admitted yesterday that undergoing the treatment for this disease is very similar to the treatment for cancer.
Most get worse before they get better.

FYI...the head doctor at IGENEX has said it can take a year for bands 31 and 34 to show up. So he's had it for a while.

Zachsmom... Print the explanation out so you can refer to it over and over. Also, read the "replies" to the initial explanation. LOTS of good info there too!!
Make sure he gets tested for bartonella and babesiosis.

Kelmo, No he hasn't started treatment yet because we just got the labs back. What confuses the issue a little is that he has Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (diagnosed in July 2008) and so up until the last 5 or so months, all symptoms matched that. Since then, other symptoms that I mentioned above. I feel I'm in a time crunch now to find the right doctor. So much has been put off because of mental diagnoses and just getting through managing POTS. I know we're in for a long haul.
Re time of tick bite? A week or 2 before the awful POTS trigger in July 2008 (2 ER visits within 16 hours - he's never been the same since that day), he was tent camping for 5 or so days in NE Ohio. He did that for 3 years previously. He had lots dehydration issues prior to 7/08, heat/cold intolerance, one unbelievable stomach flu bout that year, but not daily illness, thinking he's going to die all the time. He came home from medical leave 2 1/2 months after he began college.
