I believe I have had Lyme and co's since I was about 17. I also think my kids have it. Going to an LLMD soon...but...
Could an illness that we all just recently got have set it all off? It seems that we all started becoming VERY symptomatic at the same time....4-5 months ago.
At that time, I thoughtmy son had worms.....myself as well. I took him to the Dr. They tested and found nothing...so they say! Could this have setting off?

If you already had it, it is possible that serious illness and other trauma to the body can set off the lyme. My own history has revealed in hindset that pregnancy, surgery, and severe illness can all cause lyme to go active.
I am glad you have an appointment with an LLMD. A good doc of any type should be able to sort out what exactly the root cause of your illness is. I hope you get answers soon and start on the path to wellness.

If your bodies are already fighting lyme and then they have to try to fight off another infection at the same time, that can overwhelm the immune system and allow the lyme to get out of control. Then, symptoms flare.
It is commonly known that people who have gotten well can get sick again with lyme (relapse) when they have a surgery, experience a lot of stress, have a pregnancy, an accident, etc.
So, it is exactly the same principle at work.
At last week's lyme conference, a doctor spoke of how often people's immune systems are weakened by exposure to mold (at home, at work, etc.) and then they get lyme disease.
I now believe that is what happened to me. You can see the notes I took and the discussion that followed at this thread:
When a person's immunity is compromised, they can get a case of shingles--the chicken pox virus coming out of dormancy to make them sick again. Same with the common cold sore. So, the concept is well understood in medicine.
Be sure mold is not a part of the family's environment.

If I trace back to when/where I might have gotten sick, then I can trace it back for years.
Over the years I have gotten sick a great many times. Seems like at least once to twice a year with something or another, but never wih Lyme. Each time I would bounce back, as with a normal sickness. There was nothing that put me over the edge.
Each year my headaches got worst, but very gradually. Headaches lead to neck pressure and then lower abdomen pain was added. I had even had shortness of breath months before my full blown episode. The only confirmed tick bite that I had ever gotten was back in 1996. Four years ago I did move to this infested hell hole, where 13 people in adjacent houses have gotten bit and or sick. No one sick like me and hence even more credence to me being bitten a long time ago.
Then in April 2011 my daughter gets sick with a flu like symptom, then my wife, & then me. Had to have been a virus of some sort. Since then I have never been the same.
If it was simply immune stress, I should have had full blown symptoms years ago. I was also under MAX sress for many years. I believe either one of two things is possible. A virus had last invaded my system and confered to the BB a protein coat to ALLOW it to spread, without any further attack from my immune cells. Alternatively the BB has expressed the CORRECT protein coat on it's own to propogate further infiltration.

For me I think it was mold, I have a finished basement and 1 month ago my husband found a BIG mold colony in the ceiling from a leaking pipe.
I was bit by a tick a year and a half before I got real sick. I didn't know it was a tick at the time, I found it in the shower and before I knew it it went down the drain. I thought ticks all turned grey when they feed. Not nymphs, well anyways...
The winter before I got sick we were playing Wii every night in the cellar and put a treadmill down there, so I think all of that exposure did it.
When he took it out I had asthma for 2 weeks after, I have never had asthma.
I'm pretty sure this is what did it for me.

WOW! I was diagnosed with herpes zoster (shingles) a few years ago. Not a ad case....my GP put me on Acylovir at that time. Had maybe 2 bouts of it since then.
I also had surgery (cosmetic: mini tummy tuck, lipo and fat transfer) in June of 2010. My son was born in Jan of 2009.
I have no doubt that mold is a problem in our rental....but how does that set Lyme into motion?

Yes, read the thread I posted. It is the notes from a doctor who spoke at last weekends 2011 ILADS Lyme Conference in Toronto.
I can't believe mold started this for me, but the timing is just as this doc said.
