Hi All,

Anyone done the igenex tick test? They test for lyme, bart, babesia, erlichiosis, ricksetta. $65 for each test. Just curious if anyone has done this?

Would it make sense to only get the tick tested for Lyme? If it is positive for lyme, perhaps you can have other tests done or assume the tick would carry co's if it test pos. for lyme? Instead of spending $65 x 5, just curious if anyone has experience with the test.

Found a tick (looks like a tiny nymph) on my daughter, coudln't have been there for more than a few hours. But it still scares the hell out of me. I know your regular ped will not immediately put her on meds without symptoms or a rash....

Man I hate ticks...thanks for any suggestions on how to handle the test and situation with my daughter...i know the immediate reaction is, "go get her on doxy for 30 days right now!". I just hate not knowing for sure if that is the right thing to do or not, plus like I said, her ped. woudln't do that, I'd have to find someone else, which is why I was going to get the tick tested to gain some insight first...

Anyway, thanks to anyone for sharing...

Drew

It's not a sure thing as I once found out.

Lymetoo,

Not a sure thing, as in, you had the tick tested and it came back negative? And you tested positive for lyme & co following that?

This sucks, her birthday party is tomorrow and I'll basically be thinking about this all day. Since her ped doesn't "treat the bite", I was thinking that if I overnighted on monday the tick, just go tthe lyme test done, if for some reason it was positive, perhaps the doc would agree to treat based on that, or then I'd go find another dr...

They usually give kids 28 days of oral amox? Is that the standard treatment for a 5 year old?

Even if the test is not 100%, I always test the tick. I only have it tested for Lyme due to the cost.

Regardless of the tick test results, keep a close eye on your daughter. You may want to talk with your Lyme doctor since NY is an endemic area.

Go to the site I posted. It tells all.

I was bitten again 6 mo after 4 yrs of successful treatment. I got on doxy the same day... sent tick off for testing...Igenex.

9 days later I'm sick. Tick test came back 3 wks later .. negative.

Treated for 2 months. I was OK.

I sent a tick to Igenex once years ago. It took 3 weeks to get the test results.

That's a big drawback.
