Has anyone had a herx from acupuncture? After my session yesterday I felt spacey, achy, and weird. Then it progressed to intense pain and swelling in my left shoulder, elbow and wrist.
This all resolved by this morning, even though it was incredibly painful last night. Could the herx pass that quickly?
Confused, especially since I am not sure yet if I am dealing with Lyme...

Welcome to LymeNet.
My GUESS, and I've not seen scientific literature on this topic, would be the treatment could stir up toxins and move things around in your body.
And yes, if your toxin removal organs/system are in tact, it could clear up quickly.
I know the chiropractor told me that the adjustments he does can do that... and he was right!

Acupuncture also produces endorphins which stimulate your immune system so you may have experienced a huge die off.

Thanks everyone. I am just trying to piece this all together and see if it is Lyme.
I've tried Rife-- which gave me skin issues for 3 weeks now(herx?. Taken lots of cats claw (no reaction). And had acupuncture for months and only recently had these types of reactions (chest pain and now joint pain).
Hoping to get in to see Dr. C in NY next month...

I have never gotten intense pain following acupuncture, but it sounds like it could have brought on a herx.
The spacy and weird feeling was "acu stoned". I usually shop for about 15 minutes after acupuncture because I get spaced out (ha ha).
Acupuncture relieves pain for me, and definitely strengthens my immune system. I feel sooooooooo much better after I get treated. Also, the beneficial effects are cumulative.
