since i've been on ceftin for the pneumonia, i have pretty much stayed in the bathroom. i don't go once a day, it's more like several times in the morning and then throughout the day.

i am taking plenty of vitamins and probiotics. in fact, i just got the vsl 3.

i hate to take an anti-diahrea med cause that's bad for you. but man, this is awful.

Activated Charcoal - helps with Lyme/coinfection detox and should also help with the diarrhea...

Make sure if you do try the charcoal to take it at least 2 hours apart from other meds/supplements...it is a binder and will inactivate stuff taken with it.

Drink plenty of fluids throughout the day if you try the charcoal also so that it can do its job without causing constipation.

May have to play with the dosing a little to figure out what works best for you.

Additional anti-diarrheals that aren't counter-productive:

Fiber - flaxseed meal (other nuts/seeds ground up), oat bran, fruits & veggies (esp. if have not been peeled, so use organics), etc., helps to regulate movement in the colon...works for both constipation and diarrhea.

Homeopathic options: Arsenicum Alb., Nux V. - both are for inflammation in the gut and can be helpful for normalizing GI motility.

Also, if you are getting too much Vitamin C or Magnesium, this can lead to diarrhea. Might need to play with your dosing on these nutrients...

Liver/bile duct and Pancreas issues can contribute to diarrhea. Might get the blood test to check these...Liver enzyme panel (or Comp. Metabolic Panel), and Pancreas enzyme panel.

Razzle has good suggestions.

Coconut oil, and Carob Powder are also helpful. The carob powder is somewhat binding but not at all rough. It's been used for centuries as a remedy, in many cultures.

But, really, it may be best to just let it run its course (it may be moving out stuff that you no longer need to carry) . . . as long as you rehydrate and get nutrients, and of course, it's within reason.

Be sure to get the right amount of good fats, too, that helps the heal the lining of the gut, colon, etc.

Oh yeah... Coconut oil applied rectally can really soothe the burned tissues from diarrhea. I make my own suppositories with organic coconut oil and they really help with all sorts of rectal problems (fissures, etc.)...

you may not be taking enough probiotics ... when I up my dose this

problem resolves for me ... when BM becomes firm again you know

you are @ a correct dose ... this may or may not be your problem

but it works for me... good luck

Bananas that are still a little green (not all the way ripe with any brown spots) can help bind you up. They can also help replenish some of the potassium lost from diarrhea.
