I read somewhere that you are not supposed to take this if you have a port?
Anyone else heard this?

I take it before bed with VSL#3.
Just be sure not to take it at the same time with antifungal meds or antifungal supplements.
You can take S. Boulardii even if you have a PICC, port, or any type or central line. You must be very contentious about keeping the end caps covered, keeping the dressing clean and intact, and good hand hygiene.
There are studies on Pubmed that show there is a risk of sepsis or central line infection when giving patients S. Boulardii. In the studies that I read the patients lines were directly contaminated with S. Boulardii spores.
In these studies they were using powder packets not capsules. Some nurses mixed the powder packets with the patient's drink at the bedside. This may have been the source of contamination. Others mixed the powder packets in another location and then later handled the patient's central line without washing their hands. This may have been the source of contamination. So the problems are powder in the air and powder on the hands.
If someone's going to have an IV they should be taught to protect it, keep it clean, wash their hands. Make sure their nurses do the same. That's just my opinion!
S. Boulardii has been proven to help prevent c.diff. We need all the help we can get to prevent this nasty infection.
