I think someone brought up sulfa in food, supplements etc,. But does this have anything to do with medicine?

If so/or not what does the other stuff mess with? [Eek!] : Nonna

Not quite sure what you're asking, but sulfa-drugs (certain medications, such as some antibiotics, that contain a sulfa- component), sulfates, and sulfites are 3 different things, and a sensitivity or allergy to one of them does not mean one will also have problems tolerating the others.

Steroids (Prednisone) block sulfur metabolism, which is why -- in my opinion -- so many skin & connective tissue side-effects are experienced by those on long-term steroids.

Those who have certain methylation cycle genomic variants may have difficulty processing sulfites and sometimes also some sulfates and/or sulfur-containing foods.

There is a protocol for using specific nutritional supplements to compensate and support the methylation cycle, but these supplements need to customized to the individual based on their specific methylation cycle genomic variants.

I hope I answered your question? Take care,

Thanks Razzle, but The person was posting how they were avoiding high sulph (ic)sp? foods and herb that contained these things.. I'm allergic to Sulfa the drug, but the post made it seem like you have to watch out for certain foods and additives.

Maybe she just ment like the nightshade food thing..

Thanks for your help.

Still waiting for something to kick in with this new treatment.........

Been in bed so long and behind on the most simple things ...Like I have three checks and a certifide letter that HAS to be done.. been trying for 2 weeks on just that.... can't get the brain to just DO IT.

I have problems with sulfur and sulfa. My husband and I are waiting to get our genetics testing back which will check our methylation cycle. From blood tests we already know we have problems with sulfur and it messes up the methylation cycle for us. Our doctor told us we have more ammonia in our brain and less dopamine, which makes thinking and concentrating more difficult.

nonna - it was me who posted about having difficulty with all sulfur, sulfites, sulfates, etc. I'm still trying to sort this stuff out. It's a BIG issue.

Heleneh - What type of doctor did you see for this? May I ask what bloodtests he did?

I'd be curious to hear how your results go and your progress with what he/she recommends.... if you don't mind sharing.

Thanks,
Tammy

It doesn't end.....I know the Dr.s can be more than frustrating.........But if you're starting at square one and listen to a third off all this ...What's a person to do???

Buy tickets to Germany, and just say DO ME !!!!!!!!!!!!!! (880 Machine) [shake]

I've asked PCP's before they say no connection.

Wonder what Vitamin Cottage would say?

I had a methylation test run. I don't understand the cycle as it is very complicated and alot of biochemistry. It takes three months to get the methylation genetics results back. Still waiting. Also have trouble with the MTHFD genes which can cause trouble with detox, cancer, etc depending on which genes you have and if the methylation cycle does not work correctly. If the methylation cycle does not work correctly, can't detox and it can cause many other problems. If you are concerned about methylation, you need to find a doctor who will check it for you. If you have any questions, please send me a private mail.

wasn't concerned about methylation/MTHFD ..
UNTIL NOW !!!
I just left a new post about starting a detox, and now I read this..

Just what is a person to do??????????

I think I'm trying so hard and I don't see results.

So what kind of doctor do you see for this?? Is it really rare?

So for now .,until further notice from I don't know who. I stay away as usual from the drug Sulfa. And not worry about the other stuff ,even though I've thought about it several times over the years and asked.

Nobody ever mentioned this other test or problem.. How in the is anybody to get the help they need.??

Nonna,

Your LLMD knows about methylation/MTHFD and all other matters relating to toxicity issues.

If you are looking for nutritional guidance (with foods &/or supplements) call your LLMDs office and ask the office manager who they suggest.

Also ask about any books on this matter.

As I recall, your LLMD is Dr. Kr. (and if he is the one I'm thinking of) he's very much into nutritional support. If he can't advise you himself, I'm sure he knows of various professionals who can work in conjunction with his protocol for you.

The first step in helping your body detox would be removing any offending items from your home (especially in the bedroom). Chemicals, scented products, inks, fumes, etc.

Certain wood "products" and plastics can also off-gas continually. Carpets, too. Vinyl shower curtains are the worst offender.

I would start with this book (along with asking your LLMD's office for guidance).

It is recommended by many LLMDs and LL NDs. Your library may carry this, or obtain it through inter-library loan. Be sure to read the reader reviews:

Back to SULFITES & SULFATES in foods and processed "food" products.

It is probably best for anyone with health issues to avoid them, other than what naturally occurs in food - just not in high concentrations as in balsamic vinegar, etc.

You can search Google for a list of common products and also a list of foods that contain sulfites naturally and those which have it added such as Cured meats (bacon, ham), dried fruits (apricots, etc.), are some of the foods.

Salad bars and prepared salads to buy and take home often contain sulfites to retard that icky brown aged effect.

Again, a search at Google will guide you but, basically, just don't buy foods that are treated with anything. Look out for the condiments.

Buy real food, straight from the earth. Meats and fish from a trusted place that does not add anything. Eggs from happy chickens that get to run outdoors (most do not).
