im on my second round of doxy (after a switch in

I've treated my Lyme with doxy multiple times over the years, many years. It has always worked.

There is NO scientific literature indicating antibiotic resistance exists at all in cases of Lyme disease.

I am glad doxy worked for both of you. As for me, a lyme sufferer of over 21 years, doxy is the one antibiotic I hate because I think it does nothing. Doxy is the very first antibiotic I was on when I was first suffering bad symptoms yet we didn't know it was lyme disease. For the first few days it took all the symptoms away. Then on day five or six, all the symptoms came roaring back. Also on another infection I had, doxy did not do the trick.

So I personally can't stand doxy. But Tincup, it helped you, and I guess to some extent you, too, Yankees 237. So I guess its just a matter of all our bodies reacting different.

Yankees 237, if doxy not working, see if your doc will prescribe Ketek and another antibiotic. Ketek, when combined with just about any other antibiotic is very powerful. Unfortunately, some people suffered liver problems and now lyme doctors are weary of prescribing it.

Even try Penn vk (it's just pure penicilin sp?) tablets. Again, especially with orals, they should be combined with another antibiotic.

If you need a more powerful regimen, rocephin is still the gold standard, whether intravenous or intramuscular (shots).

Bicillin LA (shots) are another, excellent choice.

burgdorferi' suggests that doxy is effective against the motile form of Bb only and that it is ineffective against the cyst form.

Good points!

I want to mention I am not saying it cured me. It was effective (bacteriostatic) and I did not become resistant to it over the years, which is what I thought Yankee was asking.

I've actually done well on penicillin too. So I am not recommending doxy as a cure, just letting yankee know it can be effective to kill some Lyme even after using it previously.
