My doc wants me to try Tygacil. Is a PICC line the only way to get Tygacil into the body? I have heard several horror stories about PICC lines and am leery of having a PICC line put in my body?

Tygacil does need to be given via IV.
If you don't want a PICC you could talk with your doctor about the possibility of getting a port.

I got Tygacil via a chest port. I prefer it to a PICC line, but it involves surgery. A PICC line is generally okay and without incident. Please don't be scared off by the horror stories. All four of us in my family have had them, three of us have had them twice.

You could try doing it via peripheral lines. If you tolerate those ok (meaning no collapsed veins), that would work. Otherwise, a PICC is less invasive than a port. Although personally I prefer a port.
