my older sister has been sick. she has this umm, rash on her back, some on her arms.
it's large patches of reddish and purple, like scaly area. it looks absolutely terrible.
she's been to specialists and even went to (horror of horrors) cleveland clinc. they tested her and said "oh it's old age, and your immune system is shot). gave her steroids and sent her home. nothing else, just getting old and immune system shot.
i know she's under extreme stress. but i'm wondering if she might have lyme also.
can lyme cause such sores? as far as i know she's not contagious or anything but if you saw her you would not want to be around her.

She doesn't have by creepy crawling sensations or anything but does say it will itch. The first time I saw her I thought somebody threw hot water on her. She has used all kinds of creams but nothing helps. it just looks horrible. I loOked up psoriasis pictures and it kind of loOks like the really bad kind but doctors say it's not psoriasis.

I believe LD can cause multiple dermatological conditions. Burrascano said skin rashes are often seen in LD (not just the "bulls eye rash" but other rashes/skin eruptions). Makes sense to me because LD is a multi systematic disease---it can affect every part of the body.

yes my mom hd a lot of those red petechia but some were about dime size. none of the rest of us have this skin rash like hers.

I may just be learning from all of you about Lyme. But itchy rashes are something I know about. It sound like your sister has something like the rashes that have plagued me for years. They may be Lyme related, but no one really knows. But they respond to doxycycline. Through the years before Lyme dx I had to fight to be prescribed it. But on it the rash would would just disappear. Whereas on prednisone it would get suppressed and then travel. Doctors attributed it to the anti inflammation of doxy.
Rashes are really hard to dx. But could your sister try doxy? (also used to treat acne and rosecea) and if it works may make her thi la out Lyme.
For relief it itches... A warm shower followed by gold bond powder worked better than any steroid creams. And qn antihistamine called periactin was the only thing to offer any relief.

unfortunately this is another one that thinks that doctors are gods and i'm the idiot in the family.
but i can't help but worry. if you saw her back and arms. it's awful.
i can't even describe it. large patches of dark red and purple scaly looking stuff. not pus but scabby looking.

oh no I had shingles and they were like pimples. Her back is Much worse than shingles. Just imagine a third degree Burn with scaly like skin. Ugh. It is not old age....

Reddish purple scaly areas makes me think of psoriasis. Of course, I am not a doctor. This is just what came to my mind.

wth??? that's what i thought at first too and some of those pictures do sort of look like her. course can't tell fer sure.
i've never seen anybody with really bad psoriasis so i don't have anything to compare but hmm, yeah maybe, but then doctors would have found it right? she went to all kinds of skin specialists and then she got sent to cleveland.
i would think they could diagnosis that. but then umm, maybe not...

It's possible she is not producing enough HCL (hydrochloric acid) It can allow all kinds of bacteria, fungus, parasites etc. into the blood stream. Maybe she would be open into looking into that.

She needs to see a good doctor that really knows about Lyme disease. Please post in the forum looking for Lyme treating physician.

For your consideration...
The color you describe, purple, is what concerns me. Purple says infection and toxin production, just not which one. Has she had these biopsied and tested?
A few months ago, after years of pursuing, and after many purple spots, I was finally successful in getting an additional identification/diagnosis of klebsiella and e coli infections. These are in my skin as well. I was biopsied multiple times, but they never tested for the enterics, they were testing for strep or staph, of which always came back negative.

I should probably add that the resevouir for these two are my sinuses and ears. And it is my understanding, that these two are quite common in those in which have been treated with antibiotics. Supposedly, the antibiotics help to create a niche in which these two bacteria can establish in, and especially in an immunoincompetent state. I am hoping not to have been unlucky enough for it to have spread to my lungs.
But if something similar were to be going on with your sister, then her chest, back, and arms would then breakout from a pneumonia type of infection.
It just screams toxins at me, and where there are toxins, there is infection somewhere.
