Has anyone taken both and found one to be better than the other?

Basically I believe it is different strokes for different folks. What's good for the goose isn't always good for the gander.
I haven't personally taken both, but from what I've noticed from patients postings is that mepron seems to be the preferred medication, but the other works well too in some cases.
Six of one, half-dozen of the other.

I've taken both. I like malarone. But, I suspect I had both strains of babs because early in treatment, I made great strides with mepron.
Like boxermom said, for me, the dose is the key. I do well on high doses of malarone, not so much when the dose is low.

Same as blinkie. I also made excellent progress on Mepron, but later chose to add Malarone. You have to take enough Malarone for it to be effective. I would say at least 3 tabs, 2x/day. Less is OK is you are also on Mepron.

Malarone is generic, mepron not yet. I am on Mepron. I sort of hate the sugar and dyes in it...but its month nine and I am doing better. Hopefully will be off it one day....

Mepron is liquid Atovaquone which is fairly well absorbed if taken with fatty foods. (it is fat soluble)
Malarone contains solid Atovaquone (which isn't well absorbed) plus Proguanil which is another good drug.
I take generic Malarone primarily for the Proguanil

I agree that dosage is important with both of these meds.
People respond differently. I have taken both, and for me Mepron works much better. Malarone did not help me at all.

Unfortunately, the price of Malarone has barely budged. I have a coinsurance based prescription plan and my co-pay is still sky high for 60 pills. That SUCKS.

I get 24 pills of generic malarone for $10 a month. I've made progress with two bottles of ABab and pulsing Malarone Azith Mino and Tindamax or Flagyl.
After amalgams are out I'll be adding Artemisinin.
My doc goes low and slow with doses and for the most part I'm able to work full time again.

I get 180 pills of Malarone a month (6 / day) for $5.

I think I got screwed by Costco. They dispensed the brand version. Makes me angry. I can't see my LLMD writing brand only on the script. I'm going to complain to the pharmacy Monday, but it's a moot point as pharmacies can't return pills. Still it's total BS if a more favorable price point existed.
Bcb, you obviously have a very rich pharmacy plan with a flat co-pay. $5 for 180 pulls is a ridiculously low portion to pay. I'd be thrilled to have that. Good deal.
The thing is not only did it cost me a lot to fill. It cost our health plan a crap load too that maybe could've been avoided. I wonder if Glenmark is having difficulty keeping up with demand in all areas of the country and the pills aren't available to all pharmacies yet?? Hmm.

seekhelp..I would complain as well and if they filled it incorrectly they can pay you back the difference. True they can't take back meds BUT they can give you back the money if its THEIR mistake.
