Was curious how many who have Lyme or other tick-borne illness suffer from Tinnitus (any form of subjective, ringing in the ear(s)?
I only have this in my right ear, but it become troublesome about the same time that my other neuro symptoms presented 7+ years ago.
Anyone here only experience it in one ear?
Is this a common, verified Lyme symptom?
I'm thinking it very well could be since it's of neurological origin.
Have mentioned it to neurologists, they just shrug. Have never visited a ENT doc, would that be of any help?
Very recently in addition to the ringing, I now have some hearing loss of certain tones in the affected ear.
I DO take gabapentin (neurontin) for nerve pain, can anyone share experiences of perhaps the gabapentin causing/worsening Tinnitus?
I have not had ANY lyme treatment in over 3 years, stopped because of cost/uncertainty of diagnosis.
Thanks for any definite info on tinnitus (esp. of one ear) and Lyme or ANY other infection?

I could tell you that most people on hear suffer from tinnuitis. I had some hearing loss and feel like it has come back ( my family says otherwise). I have ear sensitivity and talking on the phone makes it worse sometimes. I also feel like when I am dizzy or in a place where a lot is going on it gets really bad. I also have had issues with brain zaps when falling asleep and find my ears are really bad when I wake up. Not sure what that is about. I have really tried to go on a gluten free diet as i feel like it has a direct correlation with exacerbating lots of my lyme symptoms ( neuro, brain fog, dizzy, ears, gi, etc).

I get ringing in my left ear that lasts for days on end and drives me crazy. It also makes me feel dizzy even when laying down.

I too have experienced Tinnitus, but only after taking Doxy. I have heard of two others on my block who had the same experience with this and Doxy.
When Doxy is removed the ringing had gone away for the two individuals. I just stopped Doxy (day 3) and switched. I still have ringing.
I think the BB make a run for it when exposed to ABX and try to hide in the ear canal. There they are less affected by ABX.

yes I have bad ear problems. My first late stage Lyme symptom was 6 years ago, my ears started clogging up. At the time I had no idea what was wrong. Ity culminated in my losing my hearing and almost falling off of my motorcycle on a XC trip. Since then I have been pretty miserable. I have pretty bad ringing at least every day

Lymedin2010. I recently also have ringing after Doxy. I didn't have this experience in the past. I thought this was primarily from Zith. I also notice that I get ringing after my infrared sauna. It doesn't seem to be going away. I may check in with you in a few days and see yours went away.

Yep ,Right ear. I thought it was from an untreated ear infection.. This was before I knew I was so sick. As far as I know anyway....4 ENT Doc's Said just happened and it's in the other ear ,I just can't hear it. The left ear has problems often, like not re-set tube from a high elevation feeling and goes to pain..
When I think about it the left ear not re-setting was one of the first things I remember that went wrong and never went back to prior wellness.
It was a large problem for years and when a Pulm. Doc put me on Zith ,cause he knew I was sick. He didn't know with what... after a long time that ear settled down , I found a way to pull back and out to open it up.
Just one more thing....been ringing over 6 years.
Nonna........Hope your's clears up

I was able to get my tinnitus to quiet down for 6 hours each time I used a PEMF machine - stands for pulsed electromagnetic machine -
we hold a coil as it emits electromagnetic clicks. The one I used was 400-700 gauss strength.
I worked up from seconds to an hour of exposure. I remember I had to drink a bit of water in the beginning.
Its literature says it restores electromagnetic charge that we're deficient in, due to being ill. I asked a top LLMD about it and he said it probably quiets down the nerves.
Health professionals, like chiropractors, could have one.
