Daughter got up 3:00 a.m. with 103.7 fever, past pulse, chest pounding so we are doing some Tylenol, cold compresses to help calm it down.
Recently went up on Doxy from 50mg 2x/day to 75mg 2x/day.
Brought the xmas tree in and now asthma symptoms too.
Are steroid inhalers "allowed" to help control the airways?
I feel so helpless. Now she's got the colitis, Lyme and asthma going on on top of herxing.

Some people need steroids. I have taken them orally and by injection many times. No problems they only have helped me. I make sure i am on antibiotics thpugh. I use a steroid nasal spray too.
But being able to breathe is most important. Dont let anyone here tell you otherwise.

Agree with merrygirl. My mom has asthma and lyme and sometimes she has to take or inhale the steroids. yes it is not optimal but she is going to die if she cant breathe.

Thanks all, We did do both the steroid and rescue. When ya need it, ya need it!! I agree with you. At 3 a.m., I don't think very clearly!!
We are feeling better after going to the local pediatrician (who took us on his lunch hour, gosh he's great) who told us that he is seeing a lot of this going around right now. A bacteria/virus that goes to bronchial inflammation. Her pulse/oxy was 97, yahoo...for now!!
If she doesn't improve soon, he will add another antibiotic to her doxy.

I had a similar problem 6 months ago. My LLMD said it was alright to use the inhaler, but not for too long.

LAXlover, Have you read about using a salt pipe/inhaler? You breathe in air that passes through dry salt crystals, and breathe the salt ions into the lungs. This reduces inflammation and kills bacteria/viruses.
The Cisca saltpipe ships from England and takes about two weeks, but you can find vendors who sell other brands on Amazon.com and eBay.com. Search for salt inhaler.
Several people on LymeNet who bought a salt inhaler said that they were able to reduce the use of their inhalers for asthma.

Glad to hear she's on the mend. My son had/has something similar and has been using his inhaler a lot too.
What about getting rid of the Christmas tree? We had always had a real one too, but after a day of having it in the house this year, my son was coughing and my sinuses were acting up.
So the real tree is now out on the porch, and we have an artificial tree inside instead. I was a little sad to make the transition but it's worth it to breathe!

Trying to stay away from puffers & steroids. We use aromatherapy (NOW oils from GNC) in a facial massager. Thyme, clove & cinnamon it works for my son 11 & the rest of the family including myself.

I am all about that salt pipe and I'm ordering a couple of them!!! one for my mom too! I've NEVER heard of them.
The doctor said my daughter's problem was not from the tree but I was also thinking about dragging it outside....
I'm also going to check out the GNC aromatherapy oils CrackerJack. I'm all for natural methods of relief and would LOVE for my daughter to never use the puffers again.

Lax pm me your email address I'll send you the directions I saved from a file. It works but make sure no one has any allergies to what ever oils your using. A did a drop of each oil in different spots of my arm and waited a hour to see if I was good to go.
