Isn't my brain fog supposed to improve on this stuff? It's been a week now and if anything, the fog is worse.
I feel extremely weak and faint, which is new. I thought the only side-effects were bloating and constipation(neither of which I have).
Has anyone else been foggier/weaker on this stuff?
TIA.

- I was much weaker on it and had severe neuro reactions. I tried several times and just could not tolerate it. I was so glad to stop.
In my case, I already was falling a lot and had frequent seizures so I don't think this would cause that if not already on your symptom list.
For myself, though, falling and seizing was much worse. The seizure threshold was much lowered. With all that, of course, the brain fog and dizziness and just "out of it" was worse.
[For some, though, it's better.]
So, for me it was a matter of safety. I'm thinking that my body just really needed ALL my nutrients and this took too much of the good away.

FIRST, be sure you are not taking the kind that had aspartame or any artificial sweetener - or ANY additives. Some do (especially the "lite" varieties).
LOWER DOSE? MORE WATER?
You might want to try a much lower dose. Be sure you take a lot of WATER all through the day and with each dose.
Be sure to get your vitamins, neuro and adrenal support at times other than around the CSM dose.
It could be that your nutrients are becoming deficient.
And, it could be that this just may not be the right approach for you. Many can't tolerate it.
I hope you find what works for you.
Good luck. -

Cholestyramine is something that one must go very, very slowly on. I agree with Keebler. I have the same symptoms if I take too much.
I would say try a lower dose and build up extremely slowly- something my LLMD made sure I did and told me the following method:
Try 1/4 or even 1/8 teaspoon for a while before raising it again.
I raise only after a couple weeks on a certain dose and in this manner have built up to 6 or 7 grams a day, but it has taken many months to do it.
That is how I've tolerated it.
I stuck with it using this method and it controls the effects much better.
I also take magnesium for the constipation.
As a side note, I've tried many other detoxification methods and they all have these similar effects (with the exception of the constipation) - I am quite sensitive to them.
Best wishes.

CSM can cause a really bad cytokine response in Lyme patients. Dr. S, the mold expert, uses it with Actos for this reason.
My LLMD would not prescribe Actos, and I could not tolerate the cytokine response of CSM.

It is typical for lyme patients to feel worse when they start cholestyramine. Dr. S., author of Mold Warriors and the doctor who developed the protocol uses actos (a diabetic medication) while lyme patients are taking cholestyramine because it downregulates cytokines. Actos has risks too though so if you are considering it you should look at the recent info on it.
Ask your doctor if he has anything else available that will help your symptoms while on cholestyramine.
I took it for a long time and at the same time took actos. I did fine with it. My sister tried to take it without actos and could not tolerate it.
When I went off actos I could no longer tolerate cholestyramine. I asked my LLMD if he had something else I could take instead and he recommended Toxin AbsorbMax. It is a combination of binders (glucomannan, bentonite clay and charcoal). Made by advanced Naturals and can be bought over the counter. Be sure to check with your doctor if you think you might want to take it.
I'm assuming that you are taking cholestyramine for toxin binding. If not, there are other things that can work for high cholesterol.

It seemed that cholestyramine caused my IC (bladder issue) to flare up. My pain was worse and I didn't see any results, but was on it barely a month.
Some people do great others not....

Mine's the type with sugar--I made sure of that. I've been taking 3 scoops a day. I'll cut that in half and see if it makes a difference.
BTW, Welchol(9 tabs. a day for a month pre-CSM) seemed less harsh, and didn't seem to worsen the brain fog, but still made me feel weak. I wanted to go with the most effective remedy, which seems to be the CSM. It's almost as if the fact that these(CSM and Welchol) are chemicals is resulting in another set of detox problems!
On the plus side, they both seemed to have helped with my extreme neck pain.
Thanks for the input.

Dr. S said that high dose fish oil can be used instead of Actos in slender people, then added that must follow low amylose diet. I think the diet helps the Actos or fish oil. I know it the diet has something to do with Leptin resistance.
There is a bunch of stuff about CSM on The Better Health Guy website, it's under the Biotoxin Conference 2011.

Interesting about the fish oil. Actos would be out of the question for me as I have hypoglycemia at the best of times. Do you know how it should be dosed and when in relation to the times that CSM is taken?

Our Dr. mentioned taking fish oil (high EPA) about a 1/2 hour after the CMS powder 'to get a nice dump from the gallbladder'
Dd and are are both on the CMS powder 2x a day- sure helps with die off- am giving 2 hours after antibiotics-
We didn't have any issues with it- but do have issues with making sure we both detox enough.
