This is why I HATE the automatic toilets that flush before you are ready to escape the bathroom! Ugh!!! So gross.

Dr. Oz showed something on this. He said anything you flush can spread up to 20 feet (tooth brushes, towels, shower, etc.), so the lid does matter.

- Someone mentioned some of the public automatic toilets that flush before the used can barely get up and adjust their clothes.
For myself, that sudden horrifically loud whoosh has triggered a seizure or two. Startles in the bathroom never really work out very well. I learned to look for that electronic "EYE" and listen to the other stalls for a hint that the plumbing monster is on the prowl.
I can imagine that these would be very frightening to little children, especially when they get confused and get stuck in their whoosh mode.
From various networks, I have seen similar "blue light bathroom flush specials" so to speak over the years and that is really impressive to see how far toilet contents can "fly" - even just the light liqui
For visitors, in my bathroom, I've printed out a sign for the toilet handle:
PLEASE . . .
CLOSE LID, THEN FLUSH
The capital letters just fit with the font I chose but there was some trial and error before taping onto the handle or near it.
Still, sometimes, it does not get closed after use. I've learned now, before friends come over to remove my towels, toothbrush, etc. and leave just a guest towel which, if the lid has been left open, then goes to the laundry basket.
It is that important. -

Then the next guy or girl comes along, has to touch the lid and spreads things further.
The toilet lid is not the reason for the spread of c. diff.
All the infections, including Lyme and co are distributed with air. There is hardly a doctor by now who has not caught some of them --- we have to start at a totally different level putting our house back in order. It's not the toilet lid - I guarantee it! Take care!

I never gave lyme much thought at all from toilet flushing but, rather, all the other micorobes that can go flying through the air in the water droplets. Viruses of the week, etc.
As for the lid, good point - I just never thought about someone putting their hands all over the lid as if in public, a piece of tissue works to open/close it. -

theres a big difference in the "energy" of the flush too
my really old toilet just sort of opens a hole and goes down like gravity...but those automatic one really whooosh...i wonder if that makes a difference
when mainstream med(oz) starts to make a big deal about stuff i tend to think it is to distract us from the reality of big money keeping us sick
all this from a toilet seat discussion!

An easy solution for the public bathrooms that have the automatic flush is to put a post it note over the sensor. I do this for my daughter because it scares her when it flushes and she is still on the toilet. then you can take it off when you are ready.
My family thinks I am crazy when I ask them to put the toilet seat down to flash. I will have to show them this article. I might still be crazy, but not when it comes to this.

Thank you searching4truth! I will start carrying post it notes to put over the automatic sensors because like I said earlier I hate the automatic flush that flushes before you are ready to leave the bathroom safely!
My family already closes the toilet lids in our house because we have a cat that likes to play in water, any water. So no one leaves the lid up. Even friends know not to leave the lid up in our house!
It's pretty funny to think that our silly water loving cat has been protecting us from nasty flush germs for all these years.
