I was wondering if anyone has any experience with Antibiotics causing Hair Loss.
I have been on: Two 500 MG of Amoxicillin 3 times a day, plus 500 MG Probenecid twice a day for the past 4 months or so...
Wonder if either of these cause hair loss at high doses?
I'm a 33 year old male and have been thinning for a while but in the past few months it seems to have accelerated a great deal.
Before the Amox I was on Doxy 300 mg for 4 months... Did not work as well treating my lyme symptoms. I thought i read that Doxy might actually stimulate hair growth? If so, might be time to switch back.
Scalp problems Medicines that can cause scalp problems include:
Aspirin. Antibiotics, such as penicillin, amoxicillin, Bactrim, Gantrisin, and Keflex. Barbiturates, such as amobarbital or pentobarbital.

I am a 29 year old female and losing it by the handful.
I'm on Rifampin and Doxy. But it could be hormonal too in my case.
I have heard that Candida (yeast) can cuse flaking and hair loss.
Maybe try upping your probiotics and see if that helps.

Lucky, I am on rifampin and doxy, but my hair started falling out while I was on something else (mepron, zyth, amox). I thought it was hormones for me because I'm middle aged. But now I think it may be the lyme delpeting our vitamins.
I started taking B complex (and more, but pretty sure it's the B complex) and the hair loss stopped within a week or two. Finally starting to get new baby hairs a month or two later(yay)!

General sickness and stress can cause hair loss too.
It may be hard to find one exact cause, may be a combination of several contributing factors.
Biotin supplements are supposed to help.
You might consider something like Nioxin shampoo and conditioner. I've found it helps reduce my hair loss. Or you could talk with your dermatologist to see if there are any RX alternatives that might work better.

Yea, abx can do this sometimes. I know my hair gets a little weird when i'm running any of the 'cyclines...
They're probably interfering with other nutrients and/or causing gut level nutrient absorption issues.
Support thyroid, iron levels, and stress vitamins...

Thank you all! Im 86-ing the Probenecid and adding Biotin to my daily vitamins... Hoping this does the trick..
I have a doctors appointment scheduled for a physical and plan on checking my thyroid! thanks again for this info!

I think you need the probenecid to help the amoxy. I would not go off of this without talking to the doctor.
I would rather have thin hair (and I do) then have lyme.
There are a lot of products called, "Hair, Skin & Nails" (biotin is an ingredient typically). Look for something like that and run it by your doctor.

My daughter is having hair loss since starting rifampin and fluconazole. We've stopped the fluconazole and I'm ready to stop the rifampin. The problem seems to be getting worse. The doc. thinks it may just be stress related, but she's always been a high anxiety kid, so I think it's one of the meds. Fluconazole has definately been associated with hair loss (in the medical literature), and there have been a couple of cases reported where rifampin was thought to be the cause.

Fluconazole definitely causes hair loss and breakage.
So do beta blockers.

I was definitely seeing hair loss for a number of months. For whatever reason, it appears to have reversed itself and I am back to my same old thick hair. I was and am still on rifampin and fluconazole!
