The doc prescribed me to try ketek, but the cost is 400 a month and liver failures a side effect! I'm anxious to start treatment again since I took a month off, but the docs closed till Monday and I'm left with a weekend supply of ketek.

A-Bart has been really helping and I'm doing generally OK, so I'm hoping for the next round of meds to kinda get me over the hump....I imagine when I contact him he'll probably change it to something safer & cheaper....so should I wait, or try the ketek?

I'm curious what country you live in to have ketek prescribed. My llmd said it was very effective against lyme, don't recall anything about it in regards to bart.

I assume you have bart if you're taking a-bart.

Anyway, if you and your doctor decided on ketek why are you asking here for conflicting advice?

Corona,

If you're not comfortable with it, I would think a couple of days shouldn't make that much difference?

Asking questions about what we put into our bodies is not a bad thing. Many of us have learned this lesson the hard way.

That's why many of us come to lymenet.

Just my 2 cents.

My son is on Ketek and has been for quite awhile. He's not had any problems, although his doctor checks his liver enzymes with a blood test every couple of weeks. Don't drink alcohol, which you shouldn't be doing anyway.

There's some info about it here:

I would take it.

A couple of days is not going to make that much of a difference. If it was me, I would wait until Monday.

Make sure that you let your doctor know if you can't afford the medicine. This always has to be taken into account.

Thanks for the insight, I guess I'm trying to weigh the cost and risk vs the effectiveness. Just in case, I really would've preferred to try a new drug during my weekend since I work during the week, but I'll see what the doc says on Monday. Seeing others ability to tolerate the stuff makes me feel a lil better about it tho.

I was on ketek for a year with no problems..My liver enzymes were checked every other week. It made me herx within a day after taking my first dose.
I have to say it didn't really help me though. The only thing that worked for me was Rocephin but everyone is different. As long as you have your blood tested I would say go for it.

Aargh!!...so I gave ketek a week and a half shot and now my bilirubin is high and my liver feels Tender and unhappy...I should've listened to my gut(pun?)

Anybody have any liver Recovery suggestions besides taking Milk thistle and drinking water?

About 7 years ago my LLMD/naturopath prescribed Ketek - my brain fog started to clear up within a few hours of the first pill....i remember because it was New Year's Eve and I was able to go to a party and converse intelligently....we checked my liver enzymes every few months....I had no problem....but if liver damage is a concern, monitor it...i haven't taken Ketek in about 6 years tho I wouldn't be reluctant to....

Try NAC to help also.
