Hello, I was sick last fall and never fully recovered. I lost about 8 lbs. and haven't been able to gain it back. I've had medical testing, but nothing has been found, so I will be testing for Lyme and co-infections soon. I'm wondering if wt loss and in inability to gain back is common? Thank you

- Yes, weight loss is common at first but, sadly, later on that reverses and keeps going for many, despite good health habits.
Focus always on just taking care of your nutrition the best you can.
Do not try to gain back that 8 pounds right now. Just eat good food in the right amount and at the right times.
I assume you have yet to see a lyme literate doctor?
If your weight loss is due to malabsorption, or "leaky gut" . . .
you might try going gluten free but first you might want to be assessed for CELIAC. Celiac can cause weight loss and it can be triggered by infection.
THE REQUIREMENTS OF PROTEIN & AMINO ACID DURING ACUTE & CHRONIC INFECTIONS

Excerpt from abstract on page one:
. . . In general, the amount of extra protein that would appear to be needed is of the order of 20-25 per cent of the recommended intake, for most infections. . . .

Thanks for the links. I have been tested for Celiac and other autoimmune. I am eating a candida free diet (Doug Kaufmann), which could be why I don't gain back, but also loose stools. I have diahrrea on and off so it doesn't seem I'm absorbing everything. Which could cause some other symtoms, like low Mg and muscle twitches. It's like the chicken and the egg - which is coming first?? It's confusing and frustrating. Good advice on not trying to gain it back. It causes me to eat more than I should, thinking I should be getting more calories. My diet is healthy, at least I do the best I can.

I lost a lot as well since the fall when I got re-infected. I lost over 20 in a month and have steadily been losing since. I was a "normal" weight initially.
After the weight loss, my symptoms were really bad so I tried to change some things with my diet on my own. I eliminated sugar and white flour first and then after a bad Candida outbreak, I eliminated gluten and 95% of dairy.
I've still been losing, and I find I have to eat all the time. I eat tons of nuts, coconut products (unsweetened coconut ice cream, yogurt etc.) larabars, poultry, fish and tons of fruit, vegetables and yogurt.
From what I've heard, a lot of people have trouble losing weight with lyme and co-infections, but others have trouble keeping weight on as well.

For me was activated babesia and FRY BUG with Lyme that made me loose so much weight and was scary. When I relapsed again from a car accident I LOST weight again as I had an untreated case of babesia. The very first time the other medications and artemisia kept it down but when is activated it really makes you loose weight. Both times were scary. As I am in treatment you will regulate the body weight.Treat lyme and coinfections and you will feel better.I just hope you do not have babesia DUNCANI.An activated BABESIOSIS can make you loose the ton of the muscle.

At the beginning, years ago, I lost about 30 pounds in a (month and a half).
Then about 8-9 months later I gained it back (without trying too) + and now I can't loss a pound no matter what I do.
Gaining & lossing is very very common---its crazy!

Interesting, sounds like it's normal, if this is what I have. Thanks for the feedback.
