Anyone else had experiences with zithromax like this...I have been on it only 5 days (got only one refill - from primary doc for a sinus infection), and I am soooooo miserable, on edge, irritable, feel like my head is going to explode...
I either cry or laugh uncontrollably. I yell at the slightest sound because everything startles me. I have NO patience with my kids, even LESS than when I am PMSing...and that is BAD.
I think it might be a herx (?) cause I am pretty sure I still have lyme to some degree (coinfection? unsure) but has anyone else experienced this on zith?
I am in between LLMD appts because my house has so much basement mold that I know is effecting us, that I am waiting to move (looking for a new home) before I start treating again.
I can hear a buzzing, sort of, in my head as well.
The moods are unbearable, honestly...I snap ALL day long...it is such a horrible feeling....
Any input?

So sorry you are so miserable. I am NOT a doctor, but it sounds familiar to me. It could be a herx, but do not put off asking a health care professional.
Zith is known to cause ear ringing in some people, just so you know.
Feel better soon and be sure to do some detox if you are herxing.

Azithromycin and biaxin gave me dark despair and bad moods. I felt just horrible.
Look up the side effects. Mood changes, depression, etc.
It's the medicine. Ask your doctor to prescribe something else.

DD had been experiencing terrible anxiety w/ocd intrusive thoughts. Always attributed it to the tbis; however, after researching, I discovered that both doxy and azithromycin cause exactly the symptoms she was experiencing.
She has been off both now for a little over a month, and those feelings/thoughts have greatly diminished. These particular side effects take a while to disappear completely once off, so we're at the watch-and-wait stage to see if these were indeed the culprits.
Not everyone experiences the same effects, so this may not be the cause but figured I share our experience.
I know you are between LLMD visits, but perhaps you can call and ask for a different abx and see if you get any relief.
Sorry to hear you are dealing with this. It is an awful side effect.
Feel better soon!

I have a different opinion from the posters above - while it's certainly possible that it could just be a side effect of the med I think it's much more likely to be a herx reaction. Zith hits bartonella and that sounds like a classic Bart herx to me. I got rid of my first Bart infection just by treating with zithromax alone. The herxes were miserable.
Prior to getting sick with Lyme and co's I'd taken Zith with no problems, so for me it was definitely a herx. Either way, I hope you feel better soon!!
