I have been treated on and off with oral Abx since 2005 with two rounds of remission lasting 8-10 months. My current LLMD found that I also had Rocky Mt Spotted Fever with Lyme. This last round I have been on 3 oral abx since last April. I just developed nausea, retching and other GI symptoms associated with an inflamed small intestines (mild candida). I am taking tons of probiotics, ALoe Juice and other supplements to help combat this and have really changed my diet (no more dairy or glutine).

My LLMD wants to switch me to IV Rocephin saying that the IV abx bypass the GI tract and should be much kinder than oral abx.

Hoping folks can share if this rings true from personal experience.

Which meds are you taking? Taking them with plenty of food??

IV will help unless your main problem is yeast or the gallbladder.

Make sure you are eliminating sugar and starches. NO WHITE FOODS!!!

No, IV abx are not always kinder/gentler on the gut. IV doxy shut down my colon - as in, I couldn't "go" for a month [Eek!]

Had to get colonics and be fed via IV until things started working again. MD said was probably a herx because I have a history of gut motility problems that get worse when I'm herxing.

From personal experience, IV antibiotics can cause severe nausea and stomach upset. They can also cause diarrhea just like the orals antibiotics.

There were certain medicines that were easier for me to tolerate than others. Your doctor will know what is best for you.

Rocephin did not cause nausea or any other stomach problems for me. Just remember to take RX actigall to protect your gallbladder.

It definitely can cause candida/yeast just the same as orals. I know that one!

Thanks to all. Looks like I will be heading the IV root nonetheless. All coinfections are now gone with just good old Lyme remaining. Hope IV takes me to remission!
