I was on Rifampin for a lengthy time with no increased yeast.

I would think your usual probiotics will be fine.

All antibiotix couse to some degre yeast .
On top of the list for yeast is Flagyl and at anytime you use more then one antibiotic you increase the risk for yeast .Rifampin alone does not couse big yeast problem compering to other meds but also shpuld not be used alone at anytime due to drug resistance bacteria formation well known for rifampin when used alone.

Maradona, can you say anything further about drug resistance due to rifampin alone? I guess it seems obvious, but I just had a visit with a well-known, experienced LLMD, who rx'd rifampin alone for me! Well, I got him to rx a few other things, but not to target the same infection. Argggh!

I was upset as it was that he gave me nothing for Lyme!! And not enough for Babs. What a struggle.

Sorry, didn't mean to high-jack the thread!

I would always at least take probiotics with abx, and ideally nystatin or something else to prevent yeast. Not sure about rifampin in that regard though.

Rumigirl Rifmapin also treats Babs

I don't think Rifampin treats Babs. I think it's used for bartonella, tuberculosis, possibly lyme, etc. Laura does your llmd think it works on Babs?

Sorry lp - wondering about Rifampin & Babs

I never heard that it treats babs either. Not at all. But I'm no expert on Rifampin.

just going by what I read here

I can't imagine taking anything else WITH Rifampin. OUCH!

i know many good llmds prescribe rifampin alone. it helped me a lot alone. im not sure about the drug resistance problem...i dont know of any good research proving that...if you have it plz post...thanks

its good news about it not being known as a bad yeast causer...

I asked my LLMD if I had Bart since I responded so well to Rifampin and the response was that it addresses Babs as well.
