Just want to hear the consensus opinion here.

Is raw goat/cow milk generally safe?
I'm about to start kefir

A Kefir expert emailed me this response to my query.......

Get raw goat milk if anything. Pasteurized goat milk tastes nasty and will get into your kefir grain and it will be impossible to share them.

Get regular pasteurized milk at the store. Or if you can find it, raw goat or cow milk.

Most of the "organic" milk in stores has been ultra pasteurized. Stay clear of that junk.

I have Brucella from drinking unpasteurized milk as a kid.

The spirochetes and parasites have been found in raw milk. The lungworm/parasite has been found to be transmitted by goat milk.

A friend who is one of these raw goat milk people is battling breast cancer and living in permanent fear.

I generally think raw foods are great....but I would never drink raw milk or meat.

We have compromised immune systems....soo I can't imagine WHY it would be a good idea to consume foods that might have unsafe and deadly bacteria, parasites, etc.

Ask yourself what you have to gain, and ask yourself what you have to loose? Makes no sense to me

I would not drink it and agree with Whitney.
Gigi do u have any written info on the spirochetes and Lungworm being found.

And have u heard that Lungworm and the K worm r not the same as Dr K says ?

I wouldn't touch raw milk with a 10 foot pole, except to put it in a pan and boil it for about 10 minutes...

I just started to drink raw milk from a local farmer and I have to say I absolutely love it. I'm literally giddy when he delivers it to my door and also after I drink a glass I feel great. Raw milk has been used for centuries to treat and cure diseases. It's been called the stem cell of foods as it contains basically everything you need. The colostrum found in raw milk is a powerful immune booster. It's an excellent source of vitamin d3 in combo with magnesium to help absorbption and boost immune system. I feel better drinking it just one gallon a week and it has brought color back to my face and skin. I understand the concerns voiced in this thread about pathogens but healthy raw milk has so many good bacteria and enzymes that it can self regulate against pathogens. I think the benefits outweigh the risks here IMO. I would like to hear more thoughts.

I also consume raw milk made into yoghurt. Pasteurized milk is not milk, it is just white dead liquid, almost impossible to digest, no more enzymes.

I suppose with kefir, the bacteria will fight against loads of pathogens in milk, that is why kefir or yoghurt can be kept for weeks while milk just takes a few days before spoiling.

I drink raw camel's milk and it is very helpful. It has nano antibodies that look human but are much smaller. Some of it tastes pretty good but when it ages it is not so great. Still I have never heard of anyone getting sick from it. Just the opposite!

I felt great drinking raw milk. Looking for an organic farm now so I can get some again. I made kefir with raw milk and also yogurt. All were very good!

We grew up drinking raw cows milk...... Never had any problems with it.

We now have a goat and are drinking her milk raw. My husband feels better drinking goats milk rather than cows milk.

With Razzle -- wouldn't touch raw anything.

Always cook meat and fish to well-done. And did that decades before this DD b/c that'a the way I juar thought it should be!

I also wash "pre-washed" produce.

And I wash apples, oranges, lemons, avocadoes, etc. with soap and water.

Hey, at least you'll never get food poisoning in my house!
