She has been on full dose of amox for a week and no herx. Does this mean anything? Maybe Dr. H was right and I shouldn't have started treating. Is this a good sign or is it going to creep up on her ?

My kids never herxed on abx or Bionic. Don't know why.

Thanks Linky123. How long did you treat them and how old are they ? Anyone else ?

Some people don't really herx, because they detox well or their body's handle it well. I have very mild herxes.

Why did Dr H say not to treat??

fflutterby,

They were only on abx for a month or two. We couldn't tolerate them, not from herxes, just allergic.

They were 11 and 13.

We went to Germany a few months later and tx for 3 1/2 weeks. They did not herx at all. I was amazed because they were dx pos. by both mds.

Bb only replicates once about every 4 weeks.

Antibiotics can not kill Bb unless it is replicating, which makes it vulnerable.

This is one of the facts I learned in five years of Lyme study, which makes me certain that the IDSA treatment guidelines are inadequate and destined to fail for most.

Some docs give 28 days of abx, others 30. Many only prescribe 14 or 21 days of doxy for an "initial" infection. If you don't hit the bugs with abx while they are reproducing, they just continue on, untouched.

Likewise while your child is in week one of treatment, there's a 4-1 chance it hasn't killed anything yet - hence, you will not get the "dead bugs in the bloodstream" symptom known as a Herxheimer reaction.

Maybe kids just do have a better detox system. For your child's sake, I hope so.

But please, don't forget to give probiotics! [Smile]

Just to jump in.

While we were still in the unknowing phase our daugher was on amoxy for 3 weeks (sinus infection) and then doxy (a family doc thinking lyme) for 3 weeks and there was no herx or alleviation of symptoms.

She might have felt worse but at that time we were not tuned into the controversy, nor knew enough about Lyme.

In looking back part of this would have been dosage. I'm sure they were not high enough to do any good.

Auntie Lynn, do you have kids in treatment? I am looking for advise from parents that have been through this. While I appreciate your advise, I am by no means a newbie around here. My LLMD is known as one of the top LLMD's in the world. I am looking for personal experience from Moms and Dads who can relate to my situation.

I am well versed in Lyme disease and have been here quite a long time. I see you have not been here very long.

t9im, she is on Dr B recommended dosage for her weight.
